You guys should give the UDK a try if you dont know about programming.
    http://www.udk.com/

It has Kismet that allows the programming illiterate to piece together games.

Blender has a game engine too that uses logic bricks so you dont need to know programming either to jump in and test out a game.
Here is a prototype I pieced together for an online "Twisted metal" game I was planning.
    http://vimeo.com/2206605

Everything was done 100% without a scrap of code generated from me.

Have not seen a voxel engine that newbies can use yet.

I don't like the Blender game engine, it's too weak compared to modern day polygon engines. And laggy. At least for me anyway.
And I don't know about the UDK, as great and and modular the unreal engine is (Unreal script ftw), its just..eh..I'd feel stupid using something that won't take advantage of my programming skills. Also it's quite heavy, and requires a good computer.

The voxel engine by Ken [which was modified by the Voxel3D people] on the other hand is completely open source, not some SDK, and runs quite well on older machines. Also, voxels.

Yeah, and my comp can't even run unreal engines 2-3. We'll try our best using VOXLAP once we can get more programmers, as Thunder is the only one out of us that can program properly. I'll try to learn C++ from books, but that's the equivalent to a doctor reading a medical textbook while working on a patient.

Well, yeah. So if there's anyone who knows C++ here, let us know, as we need more programmers.

I found out, player in AoS is 3 voxels, player in V3D is 130 voxels and it's going to be a bit bigger in the end.

I know a lot C++, but I am sure I do not qualify for this project. I can do level design and modelling a bit if you guys want, I'm good at it. I could show you but I never kept track of my portfolio lol. Maybe I should start now. In fact yes from today I'll be keeping up a portfolio of mine.

Reminds me, you should first do a really simple voxel game where you'd focus on design rather then programming - just to catch up with the mechanics. So that you wouldn't go cheap at the big game.

Sounds good, but remember that every good game requires a flame thrower. DO IT!
Also, is it going to be like AOS but with some kind of gimmicks or will it have like whole new game mechanics?
And last, are the graphics going too look similar to AOS?
Don't forget sniper chinchillas. BECAUSE THEIR PUFFY!

Even two octacore xeons, 48 gigs of ram with four teslas and four 580s wouldn't be able to run a flamethrower at an acceptable FPS on medium resolution if you made it out of CSG balls with colour burning.

You'd need to implement the idea of a flamethrower behind all the game mechanics to avoid this problem in the current day, so no, I'd rather have a really fun and polished game, wait for voxel HW acceleration and then have the flamethrower then having a game around a flamethrower.

You kinda need to come up with a complete team, set up the communication and calibrate the work to the time zones and hierarchically filter the work based on skills before you start thinking about what game it will be.

And it won't have AoS graphics, no way, not under my finger. If it'd be on me I'd have Quake3 detail level graphics as the lowest setting and 2013 theoretical Crysis 3 detail level graphics as the medium settings.

You could make a cheap flamethrower that only does basic color burning and player damage and exploding flammable objects but why a cheap flamethrower when you can have a bad ass one?

Actually, we wouldn't mind AoS grapics. In fact, that's kinda what we were planning on doing.

    ... can you run voxelstein3d?

    papa khan:
no way >=(( !!! Just no! We already have one AoS, no need for another 'hey voxels yeah the graphics rendering technology that can produce photorealistic scenes for half the processing power polygons need, let's throw in another game that looks even worser then minecraft!"

    NO!

at least make one ground grid tile 24x24 voxels, with some smoothing and polishing it'll look much better and would be even less demanding then V3D, plus you could have detail settings.

Well honestly, we're not even focusing on the graphics. We're focusing on putting in some fun and original game modes and just making the gameplay unique yet playable and enjoyable. If anything, we'll make the graphics have about 2x-4x AoS's resolution, but like I said, graphics aren't going to be our main focus.

I prefer AoS voxels to Voxelstein's voxels.

    Facts:
AoS voxels are the same Voxels as in voxelstein
Preferring 'AoS voxels' over 'voxelstein voxels' shows you're a voxel/graphics illiterate
And therefore your opinion does not weigh more then oh, never mind, not much, really
