Since this game has no backstory, I thought I'd post my own idea. Forgive me if it sounds corny: For centuries, the nation of Blockistan reigned as a large and powerful state. Despite its sovereign grandeur, its name is still open to suggestions. The key to Blockistan's success was its loyal and tenacious soldiers. Clad in their trademark blue uniforms, they were trained to manipulate the land around them, constructing bridges, bunkers, trenches or whatever they needed to subdue their enemies. With its competant warriors, Blockistan remained unchallenged in the global theatre. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the greatest threat to Blockistani sovereignty came from within. Blockistan's many glorious conquests eventually yielded a vast empire. In order to maintain such a large empire, the Blockistani government reasoned that more governmental control was necessary. With that in mind, the government began expanding, and a series of new laws were passed. While the new laws helped secure Blockistan's borders, they also restricted the personal rights of its citizens. Free speech was reduced, all communications were monitored and the media was taken over by government officials. Any citizens who vocalized opposition to the government faced fines or imprisonment. Naturally, the changes didn't sit well with all of Blockistan's citizens. Over the course of several months, what started with a series of small protests and demonstrations snowballed into riots in the streets. In protest, many of Blockistan's revered soldiers ditched their traditional blue uniforms in favor of green outfits. Green-clad troops began raiding military armories and supplying each other with the loot. Rebel officers began organizing troops into units, forming armed battalions. In response, the government ordered its troops to subdue all of these so-called "green units", with deadly force if necessary. During the operation, loyalist generals were shocked to see a fair number of their troops defect to the rebellion. As time went on, the green faction's numbers swelled, often resulting in standoffs with blue troops. Each side stood its its ground, rifles pointed at the other faction, waiting for the other to make the first move. The nation held its breath, bracing for the perils to come. Finally, one day, blue and green troops were staring each other down when a single gunshot was heard. Nobody knows who fired the shot or which side he was on, nor why he fired it. Nevertheless, that shot was the spark in the powder keg. One shot became many as both sides opened fire on each other. Casualties began mounting as gunsmoke filled the air and blood trickled down the streets. The Blockistani Civil War had begun. The civil war spread to every corner of the empire. Many citizens flocked to join the rebellion, while others who still supported the government preferred to fight for it. The government began drafting citizens into the military, only to have many of these conscripts defect to the rebellion as soon as shots were fired. The war roared on, consuming both Blockistan's people and landscape. The nation's rolling hills and deep valleys were leveled and replaced with structures built by the warring factions. Entire mountains were toppled to provide building material and room to use it. The war rages on to this day, with more and more men and hills being felled to feed the flames of war. Whenever a battle breaks out, it is only a matter of time before the landscape is unrecognizable. This is a place where no soldier, blue or green, can expect to last long. This is the world of Ace of Spades. |

This is wicked sick. I love it. Funny thing is, I immediately thought of the Prestige World Wide server when I read "Whenever a battle breaks out, it is only a matter of time before the landscape is unrecognizable." |
