I've loved that idea for so long, but I don't see it happening, just because of the amount of stress it would put on the server.

It would be cool if pyspades could somehow work that in.

if this ever happens, there really needs to be a really quick way for people to mute people within a second like a button next to their name on the score board or something. because screaming kids are very much a possibility and id like to keep my hearing while still being able to hear footsteps and such.

I say no simply because there wouldn't be an easy mute system yet and cracky voices that have not hit a drop to the baritone level burns my ears.

We don't need twelve year old Deuces screaming at the top of their lungs with their pre-pubescent voices. No thanks.

Why not just set up private voice-chats over Skype?

    [shameless.plug]
Both of my servers have dedicated Ventrillo servers set up. :D
    [/shameless.plug]

You guys can set them up too for free if you wish.
    http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

The GNU Linux install is painless with Ubuntu.

I think it would be a nice feature for the core AoS.

Support for 3rd party voice applications would be simple enough it seems.
Just make the link for the server on the AoS server list page load the aos:\\ and the shortcut to whatever voice server they are running with one click. I know ventrillo and Teamspeak both can be run from a simple URL.

Why not have it so we get totally connected ? Even separate links to the game and the voice server on the main page would be cool.

    Use mumble, ventrilo or teamspeak.
I wouldn't want this built in, at least, not for a long time.
It would also be quite chaotic to have 32 players talking - it's just better to pick and choose players you know and set something up yourself.

I would kinda like this, having a new way to communicate. I have to admit 32 people talking at the same time while most will either rage or spam, I don't think this would last long.

Maybe we could have it so the admins give certain people permission? So they can keep track and either allow them to talk or disable it.

Or you could have an option, through menu, config, or spadille, making it so you can enable only certain people. For example:

    Mic Enable: FireJetDragon [TBR]Falcon Nowa90

The thing is if they don't have you enabled as well you both cannot communicate.

Would this create lag of any sorts?!

Because some kids have parents that just don't give a care in the world whether or not their kid is playing Brawl and playing with other kiddies who mash buttons or getting a lapdance in Duke Nukem.

Yeah, built in voice chat would be a little hazardous. It's better just to gather a few friends and get on ventrillo or something of the like. Leave cussing out the other team to chat :p

Well ,it could be optional like on steam.

people would want to mute it for various reasons I am sure.

One solution people might be able to do right away is place a TinyUrl in their server name so people would know where to look for the voice servers.

As far as how many people are chatting at the same time all depends on how it is set up.

You can have one server or room for red, and one for blue, with the option to create private channels left open to help prevent cheating.

Annoying people could always be muted, that is never a problem with voice chat. The only time I saw a problem is from the control freaks doing Zombie Panic for steam. They broke it for one of the releases. Some kid found out about it, and was going from server to server playing britney spears to troll people.

Well, anyway. I dont think it would be a terribly challenging thing to add an on/off switch for the config.ini file.
If more people would rather not use it, then have it turned off by default.

One of the biggest problems game developers face is letting the user have some sort of control over their experience. They leave out things that lots of people request to force people into some predefined path.

Well, no one likes to be forced to do things. We play Ace of spades because we can do things differently if you like.
There is room for the The Rambos, The moles, The lumberjacks, The demolitionists, The team players, and the lone snipers.

Wouldn't it suck, if there was only 1 way to do things in the game?

Of course it would suck. The more options and features a game has brings in a more diverse crowd.

*Add microphone support for people who cant type fast.

*Add Joystick support so Handy capped kids can play too, with their modified controllers. (I think SDL has Wii support even!!!). - And you guys thought I was just showboating with my pinnacle Class Alpha joystick support for AoS. :p

*Add Color blind support for the kids who have a real hard time telling the difference between green and blue.

*Add Icons, and custom ANSI colors to the Server list so people with Dyslexia like me can find our favorite servers in a timely manor. (and so i can stop typing my server name all in caps. Even with caps on I have a hard time finding them).

*Have a optional word filter for chat, so ethnic kids dont have to feel bad every time N!@@#R-KILLER hacks, griefs , and team kills them. Would be nice to mute text chat too in case an admin is not there to kick them for getting abusive.

    * Add Female features to make so female players dont have to be Trans-sexual if they don't want to be. And Thanks to Google image search, I see there are some guys who would like to dress sexy too.

Well anyway, i guess i made my point. Sorry for the Novel :p

EDIT:Guess my whole point is, Add a bunch of new feature! but don't forget to let us customize them or turn them off :D

Female player models would be stupid and completely unnecessary. This is AoS not the Sims.

Also an easy way to mute would just be /mute [player name or number] obviously. And if you wanted to mute multiple people just separate the names with a comma.

There is also a character limit on custom names so you could probably fit like 5 or so names.

along with /mute [player name or number] and the mute multiple people just separate the names with a comma, separate numbers with a comma like with single people. A bit more convenient, yes? Fit way more than 5 names if you're not doing /mute all
