Ok noob question about making and joining a server

Hi all you Kool Kats who play AoS,
I'm Trying to make a server so my friends and I can have fun and stuff and not have to trya and find working servers and stuff repeatedly.
But when I create it i don't know how they are supposed to join as it is not apearing in Spadille or on the play page.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a special proccedure.
Any and all help would be greatly apreciated and I'm sorry for being such a mega n00b and waisting everyones time but i can't find this anywhere.
Please help!
