  • Nothing happens when I try to join a server.
  •

Hello, i've got really fed up with this, so i decided to join the forums.

After installing, clicking on a server from the list does absolutely *nothing* on Google Chrome. I have also tried IE, also does nothing. Entering the URL manually, it tells me the aos protocol is not recognized.

I have reinstalled twice in the Program Files (x86) folder, and once in "C:\Ace of Spades\". Still, nothing happens.

I have spent 2 hours looking on the net, and only found: "reinstall the game"

Any chance of launching the client from command line, or a special shortcut with launch options? Surely, there must be a way to do this.

The installer should place a protocol handler in your registry to launch from the browser.

    "C:\Program Files\Ace of Spades\client.exe" "%1"

    under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos\shell\open\command

You can do this manually but I would try to find out why the installer isn't doing it. Is your Windows Installer service running? Do you have admin privilages? Did you get any errors on install? Do you have some restrictive antivirus or spyware protection running?

I wish I could help further but this is the first I've heard of this problem.

There is no HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\aos\ entry in the registry. I am running as administrator and my Windows Installer service is running. Also, no errors on install.

I have Norton Internet Security (-.-), but other programs have been able to install protocols before, e.g. steam.

I know it's useful to find out why the installer doesn't work, but from my end I just want to play the game.

EDIT: Wait, there is an aos registry folder thing. When i click on it, it says an error is preventing the key from being opened. Details:Access is Denied.

As a side note, i had problems deleting the installed files earlier because it said i needed access from SYSTEM. I had to change the ownership and privileges of all the files before i deleted them. Same sort of issue here?

    Running w7 btw.

you can go to start... run

    "C:\Program Files\Ace of Spades\client.exe" -aos://446145366/

    ... for example

I think there may be server browsers that lauch your game like this too.

Also the correct way to uninstall is through the Control Panel... not by deleting files yourself, you can really screw yourself with future installs that way.

Ok, i managed to change the ownership of the entry to myself, and can view the contents.

There are no folders within aos, only a "(default)" and "URL Protocol".

I'm seriously getting annoyed with windows 7 now.

Edit:Yes, i know how to correctly uninstall programs. Unfortunately, at that point everything else was failing, so a manual delete after uninstall seemed worth a try.

Edit2: Also, i have already tried running aos with "-aos://xxxx" and "-xxxxx" and even just "xxxxxx", i just get an error saying server is full or misconfigured. Is this a "good" sign?

Server Connection Failed: It's either full or misconfigured solution, error fix, help
if u got this message and you have ESET Smart Security, try to temporary disable resident shileds and firewall, then run the game and join server. after joining you can enable it again.

I think the main problem here is that you need to start the installer with rightclick and "Run as administrator". Otherwise it won't have access to the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT"-branch afaik.
You can use this reg-file to manually register the aos-MIME. Just doubleclick on it.
Or open the registry-editor (type "regedit" into the searchbar in the Start-menu, then rightclick on "regedit.exe" and choose "Run as administrator") and goto "File" --> "Import".
