Why do people insist on using the old "if you want to build, play minecraft" excuse for destroying other people's creations?

Sure, minecraft is a much more sophisticated building game, and you won't get shot trying to build, so surely it makes sense to go there to build, right?

Well, next time you consider telling an angry builder to "go and play minecraft" after she berates you for destroying her structure, think about why you yourself don't go and play CoD or TF2 or any other combat-oriented multiplayer games.

Because in the same way you tell people trying to make cool things to play minecraft, they have as much right to tell you to go and play Counter Strike if all you want to do is shoot people.

A bit odd on the receiving end, hm? The fact is, AoS facilitates both. And every time you tell someone to go and play minecraft, you're implying that your preferred half of the game is more important than theirs. Please stop.

I do not usually build much things as my buildings are sloppy and utilitarian, however I have no objection to team mates building me an elaborate bunker or fort etc

However there is an issue I have with some builders, and that is those who do not build to help the team in anyway, those are the people who should be in minecraft, those who built a nice fort are welcome.

if you want to build, build, but try to make useful builidings like bunkers or little towers
you can build but in a war game you're supposed to keep functionality in your buildings

If an enemy griefs your structure, it is the result of war and totally acceptable.

If an ally griefs your structure, they are being a deuce.

There are 2 types of builders in this game

Engineers build bunkers and other useful stuff as well as defend the intel and I love to have them in my team

And there's the Autists that should be shot,kicked,banned and there structures burned
They build useless shit and take precious player slots that could be use by actual soldiers or engineers
If you have a team full of them,God forbid!
Whats worse is they attract grifers which means useful stuff will be griefed too

I'm mainly a "shoot/assault and build small functional bunkers when needed" type, but when people grief huge bases for no real reason it does anger me.

Well, I do both. I mainly build large towers and such, but I do enjoy an occasional raid in enemy territory. My point is, you'll never see me destroying my enemies' (or, worse, my allies') structures for no reason; the worst I'll do is lob a grenade in the window or tunnel in covertly from above/below.

Basically, you can enjoy the shooting/war aspect without having to knock down the cool towers of your enemies (unless they are giving a large enough tactical advantage, which they rarely are in reality). Go ahead and shoot me in the back while I'm working on my tower - but then, please go on and kill my allies or actually capture the intel instead of spending time knocking down the last half-hour of my time.

Heres how it works.

If you are building a pillbox or base with walls for sniping Then go ahead, you are doing well!

IF you are building a base around the tent, while the intel is taken, You are doing poorly.

If you are building a giant statue saying "fuck blues" You should go play minecraft.

If the other team destroys and of your structures, thats fine and if you moan then you're retarded.

If your teammates destroy useful building, like forts or pillboxes, that's grief.

IF your teammates destroy your useless house with a furnished living room and kitchen (I've seen this, no joke) in the corner of the map, then IT's your fault for wasting time and not playing minecraft.

Thats how it is.

Some servers are intended for building now. If you just want to build something without interruptions, go there.

However, those servers get griefed far more often than usual servers. Yesterday evening we had like 8 players building("Evil Playground"). The other slots kept getting filled by griefers. And emptied because we'd kick them.

When I build on a warserver, I keep my stuff small because I know someone's going to dig it out. Yet when there's something huge on a build server, someone WILL come in and dig that up as well.

Why?

Raging at builders is mostly when

- 90% of your team only builds (those 10% can't fight the battle on their own, and it gives enemies a huge rushing advantage, where they can just constantly run into enemy base)
- Your team is building totally useless buildings, too fancy buildins that would do the purpose when 50% smaller, or buildings that are practically on the edge of the map.

A well constructed spider tower to protect intel, or a front line bunker or trench is always appreciated, but building base full of stupid stuff is useless.

There is NO justification whatever for destroying your teammates' structures, Muncher21. If it's useless, help them make it useful. If it can't be useful because it's out of the way, leave it be as the other team won't be getting any use out of it either.

Only makes sense if you're also building around the corner of the map. And even then, probably plenty of mountain. Otherwise, run back to base or overcook a grenade.

Deal with it. If teammates are building useless structures they are taking up a slot for a potentially useful person. They should be kicked.

We are implying that because it is more important. Their pony statue does not help us capture the intel or protect our own. Us killing enemies does. This game is a capture the flag game, not a build random shit game.

I agree, AoS facilitates both building and shooting. However its purpose is an FPS, with sandbox features.
I have nothing against the guys who are building forts in central positions, where you could defend from, since attacking/defending the intel is the main objective.
However, the aimless deuces on a far off hill making a little house I am against, since this disregards the main purpose of the game.

When a guy is building a structure that helps in defence/attack, I likely join him for it is beneficial to the team to get a commanding structure. But when people solely build something like a pretty bridge/road making sure every block is the same colour etc.. it wastes time, and if they wanted to be artistic, then Minecraft is a better alternative, since AoS is meant to be war.

On shams server usually what happens is:

This giant land bridge goes to the other side for easier transportation
Griefers come with a speed hack and no more supports.

AoS is an perfect example when 2 completely different things go together, then engage in an ragediscussion with eachother.
