Atomontage is a very new voxel engine mainly developed by Branislav Síleš.
The engine is fully GPU accelerated and has a full physics engine. There is no release yet, it's still in development.

Go check the website and watch the videos (be careful if you click on this link you'll cum instantly) http://atomontage.com

Well, I can imagine but I don't want to.

It could work with other games though. Perfect for nice explosion effects and from what I read it supports polygons as well, so you could make a very nice game. Not AoS ring though.

So you don't want to be able to dig trench and tunnel in a more realistic way ?

You don't want to see a nice crater after your friend running next to you got hit by a mortar shell ? So then you can jump in to take cover from enemy fire ?

You don't want to place some TNT on the base of a green fortress to see it collapse in a realistic way ? And green insides get hurt/killed by the rubble ?

You don't want to dig to help your buried friend because a tunnel collapsed on him because of a shell ?

    Well you are strange.

Absolutely beautiful. This game would look wonderful with that engine. Seriously.

Also, I got tired of the "bounded boxes" render mode pretty fast. You can even see people from under blocks if you're looking up. I'm sure it's nothing but a variable change away from everything being rendered as cubes, seeing as Slab6 can. Not sure about the map editor, though, and it appears to be a modified version of AoS, unlike Slab6, so yeah.

"So you don't want to be able to dig trench and tunnel in a more realistic way ?"

    No.

I don't play video games looking for realism. I'm looking for fun and challenge. Now, there are many reasons why high-quality graphics can provide more fun, beyond just how awesome it looks. It allows for more detailed environments which can aid in the storytelling and interactivity of the game, for one thing.

However, graphics are just how the game provides you with information. The way the game works and plays are not totally dependent on the visuals. Of course, you can't have a racing game without somehow representing the player driving a vehicle (hopefully at ludicrous speeds), but you can have a racing game without extreme realism.

That is an impressive engine, but I would not desire it for AoS. One of the main reasons is because building would become very different. You obviously can't have the player placing one voxel at a time. So what are you going to do - have her place a cube of voxels? Or should it be materials that have a pre-determined shape, like fencing? I much prefer the slightly more abstract, low-resolution style. It makes building simple enough that you don't have to learn how to do it (like having all kinds of controls for rotating the piece and bla bla bla). Instead you can focus on playing the game, and learning how to build *well*

Not to mention, most of the cool features you talked about like more realistic collapsing and some bigger explosions, are totally possible in the current engine and would actually be awesome. This is an example where realistic features can definitely improve a game...and it has nothing to do with stepping up the graphics.

It doesn't look plausible for online play, too much network data required to transfer the maps, destruction, and everything else, unless I'm dead wrong.
Fuck off with your "don't know shit about vidya" "U mad and jelly ?"
None of these catch phrases belong here, or were entertaining in the first place (unless you're the moron you mentioned)

"One of the main reasons is because building would become very different. "
That's a bad reason IMO, I think it would add far too much to have harder building offset the benefits. AOS in its current engine is going to keep going for a while yet regardless.

Are you saying it would add to building potential, or just to the overall game?

Both. I can see placing blocks being replaced with placing bricks, or a selection of shapes with an easy-access Gmod style interface.
Though, the issue of netcode still stands..?

@magicsofa: This is not about graphics, this is more about physics (and smoother terrain eh). Physics is always awesome even when it's not a game (I know I'm a physics student :3) so when you put it in a game it becomes CRAZYYYY

And what the problem with a construction cube made of small voxels ?

@Naka With the actual connexion it is possible.
And for my phrases I was just backtrolling the trollers.

Sure, let's get a brand-new engine for a game that hasn't yet hit the full-release. Forget new weapons, forget new maps, hell let's just abandon AoS's current build and start over because then you can get your pretty maps and physics faster... >_>

Personally, I think this game needs a more efficient map-generator (maybe even smaller voxels to smooth terrain and allow more intricate buildings), and an implementation of physics to the extent that a building that should collapse, will collapse.

Also, to OP, learn your rhetoric better. Repeating the same basic question (y'know, "You don't want to...") and assuming that anyone who doesn't answer them the same way as you serves only to alienate you from the people you are trying to convince. Why bicker about what you want to do when mortars get implemented when MORTARS HAVEN'T BEEN IMPLEMENTED.

This game isn't even to 0.50 yet. Get over it.

Cpowa, not everyone thinks your way.
You should realise that you should be finding a game that suits your needs, not trying to make another game suit your needs by calling people idiots at the forums. (IT ISN'T WORKING YOU MORON)

@iamthemoose and @Loaf: you are both idiots. I'm not saying Ben MUST use this engine (It is not even released !). I'm just saying IMAGINNE if a game like ace of spades was made with this engine. Now learn to read and GTFO please.
(oh and for my "rhetoric", learn what an epanalepsis is. You'll become less dumb)

For those who expect physics in ace of spades stop dreaming It'll never happened.

@Gnome and @Noire: So because some peoples have shitty PC nobody is allowed to made a game who needs a good one ? If you were not trolling you are the biggest morrons ever

@superkonami: Have you ever read what I said ? It's GPU accelerated. Did you see the videos ? It's in fucking real time faggot.
