You can make a batch file with notepad. Just make the extension .BAT or .CMD

copy and paste this into it:

poly2vox.exe model.zip
slab6 model.kv6

then save it.

Place your new batch file in a folder.
Place the model and texture in a zip file called model.zip, call the model and texture model.* as well.
copy slab 6 into the folder, and poly to voxed...

now anytime you place a model in that folder and run the batch file it should pop you into slab6 without too much trouble.

If your model is all black, try adding a light to the scene in blender. You only get 1 lamp it looks like, but you can port the position over really easy.

Textures seem to be random for me, sometimes they work other times not.

hope ken fixes this soon. Getting vertex colors to port over would be really awesome!

Errr... well you'd load the KVX into Slab6 and paint it the way you'd do a gun or whatever. I'm not sure what you mean by weird wireframe thing but that sounds like the actual model. You use the program Poly2Vox (a command line program available on Ken Silverman's website) and convert the from 3DS (or OBJ) to KVX.

Okay, thanks. I have tried it with others but it just comes out as a weird white wireframed thing. How exactly do I put the colors onto it, because they are all in different file formats? Or do I just do it by hand?

Sorry. Didn't see this earlier.
http://thefree3dmodels.com/stuff/aircraft/15 (the Boeing 747 is about half way down the list)

If you want to kvx one I created, you're welcome to that too... http://filesmelt.com/dl/747_.kvx It'll save you some time and I cleaned it up a bit.

As for the Plane Crash map... sorry... been a busy week and my mapmaking motivation hasn't been too high. I promise a release soon. Ish.

Buffet, could you please give me the website that you got the public domain 747 from? And also, I need help using Poly2Vox. I run it, but it just comes up in a CMD-looking window, and closes within a split second.

Thanks for the input! So... it seems like Plane Crash might be the popular one. I actually made it as sort of a distasteful joke. The 747 is a poly2vox conversion of a public domain model. I need to clean up some floating tree debris before I can release it. I was also thinking of making an airport (that the plane clearly missed) that would be half on the blue side and half on the green side so that with the map-wraparound would appear to be connected on the edges of the map.

Hey Buffet, I was playing in the Plane Crash map in the test server. I was wondering if you could host it so that I could save it. I was also wondering how you got the plane in the center. Was it by hand, or with a bitmap converter?

So... hey folks, sorry for my absence of late. I had to move into a new apartment and get things set up again and am slowly getting back into the swing of things. I had several maps under construction at the point when I had to pack my life into boxes and move across town. But I'm back now. ;-)

Here's some screenshots of the maps I had going. http://imgur.com/a/lfuK7 I haven't really had time to playtest them much, except for the last one.

First in the gallery is Chewie and Han which is sort of a pinpoint-like map where I converted a pixelart image of Chewbacca and Han Solo. I was just trying to go for something with a theme and that was a little different than what I've been doing.

While working on that one I realized the obvious and created the second map, which still needs a lot of work at this point, but the map gives you the basic idea. I call it Carbonite and it will be familiar to fans of the Star Wars series. It's just a heightmap obviously, and it needs some sculpting to make it proper.

The final one is currently called Plane Crash Disaster (or something like that) and is based on a map where I just wanted to create a nice pine forest with a river in the middle. Something very pastoral and pretty, but then I decided that was kind of dull so I crashed a 747 into the middle. I've probably shown you this before but I have yet to officially release it. It needs some work...

So, I'll probably start running some playtest servers again this weekend. Any feedback is appreciated apart from simpletons pointing out that this and that can be griefed. As far as I am concerned, griefing is about 50% of the game. Some mapmakers try to make everything griefer-proof one way or another but my philosophy is to try to put so much griefable crap on the map that it keeps the little smacktards distracted enough that the rest of us can actually play the game.

I'm also pleased to see that the forum mods have seen fit to split Maps off from Mods. It seems to have unearthed a lot of maps from 3 months ago that people were making but got lost in the shuffle.
