  • Give AoS More of a WW1 Touch
  •

I really do love AoS's simplicity, since it reminds me of raw warfare where troops have limited ammo and are all using essentially the same type of rifle. Given the trench warfare concept, I think giving the game more of a WW1 battlefield look would be appropriate. AND NOW SOME IDEAS:

-Get rid of that goddamn trippy bug that happens when we look at the ground
-Have the HQ tent restock ammo every now and then when a player visits it, it's almost always a far hike away anyways
-Find a way to stop players from building/destroying a fustercluck everywhere, it's like playing on a glitchy creative mode Minecraft server
-Limit the palette for building blocks somewhat, scattered vibrant red blocks ruin the look of maps
-Make exiting water work with a normal jump
-Allow prone for crawling through small tunnels
-Make it more clear which blocks are about to be removed when using the shovel

    NEW CONCEPTS
-Landing hits on players at certain ranges awards points(if it was points for kills, players would complain about stealing kills a lot)

-Points can be spent on building materials at the HQ tent, those being:
-Barbed Wire: damages players but can be jumped over with effort
-Sand Bags: takes quite a bit of damage, but is half a block's height
-Fence: can be shot through, but not walked through
-Concrete: like a sandbag, but is a whole block's height

-Right clicking with the block tool in use places blocks at half height for use as steps

-I really don't feel confident in it, but a purchasable stationary machine gun with limited ammo, narrow sector of fire, and maybe lower damage than a rifle

-Again, I'm inconfident, but a purchasable stationary mortar that uses your grenades but launches them a pretty good distance away

-Limit communication to players within each other's field of view, radio's can be placed and player's close enough to see it can communicate in chat to other players near other radios, possibly connect them with ground wires so teams can sabotage enemy communication?

I almost wanted to suggest an knife as an option for players who dislike digging, but players are never close enough to their enemies to warrant that. I wanted to suggest a handicapped tank as well, but it would never work out. Some feedback, please?

Like you said, AoS is simple. All the ideas you are giving are good, but that would destroy the simplicity. If you want something complicated then just go play Minecraft.

I would, but I can't go trooping around shooting other players with rifles in Minecraft. The main thing I'd like to see added would be the unique building materials, specifically barbed wire and sandbags, and step placing.

Umm, since when is Minecraft complicated?

Getting rid of the first one would result in yet another framerate drop. Are you sure that's what you want?

i like to look at AoS like a universal battlefield where you can do everything

I like how long it took for Noire to freak out over good suggestions.

Anyway, I think that if these things are added, they'd be incorporated very slowly as attitude towards the game adapts (i.e. more people get bored of the simplicity conservatives keep worshiping).

-1 for WW1 look. Why even try to make it align to anything in particular? Want realism? Go to Afghanistan.

I'm in the Marines already in a unit on it's way back to Afghan next year. If you actually bothered to read you'd know that I didn't suggest anything that would drastically change the look of AoS, just add a few features to the endless blocky hills. If you think adding barbed wire, sandbags, and radios makes a game realistic, you're an uneducated manchild.

I like the idea of barbed wire, it would add to the gameplay and as long it was limited as to how many you can put down (as per your points system) I think it could actually work.

Yeah and then we can make players take 1dps whenever they're not tunneling to the intel
