I have heard that boats and a few other vehicles have been confirmed, so I would like to suggest a way to create them: You would need to create a building of a certain color and of a certain shape. This building would then create a building of it's respective type. Such as a dock-like structure hanging over water in order to have a boat production structure. They would have to produce at a relatively slow rate, of course. Please give feedback and criticism. |

o3o? Geez, sorry. Really shouldn't get so worked up though. I didn't see any other vehicle threads, and I did skim through the first page and second page. EDIT: Did not see the search feature before. I will now search before posting again. |

omg I love this idea cos building would be so much more fun. brb gotta eat - foruming later ^_^ |

but the vehicles should spawn on request so they're not spammed by autobuild. Also it should have a cooldown time of like 3minutes |

I don't really like this idea. One griefer with a pair of grenades could wreck the building and put a halt to vehicle production. |

Griefing problem could be probably solved with some sort of friendly fire. So you can't fuck up your own important buildings. |

Quote from Ben: "The terrain is too blocky for jeeps/tanks, but planes and PT boats So confirmed.. almost, but those types of major changes will take a long time to code and will really need some careful implementation if they are to become part of this awesome game. In my opinion, I'm really not sure about boats and choppers. I think the classic style of gameplay we have at the moment may be made better through variation, but classic variation of some different guns, intel-cap rewards... |

Err, no he didn't. At least American way is Osama bin Laden. Other ways are Usama and even Ussamah.. so there are many ways to say it. |

tbh I hate the idea of vehicles. They're all smoke and mirrors in my eyes, their novelty greatly outweighs any use they really have. Especially in a game like AoS I can only see it changing the game too much from the way it is now. |

I like this idea. We just need stronger block types. Also, why all the hate on vehicles? Armored units would add good progression to the battlefield. |

Vehicles are a big change to any game, a delicate matter, but they could make big sense in AoS. This is the most problem-free system I can imagine for now, with helicopters: - Every round, one point is randomly generated in each team base. This is where you can catch the helicopter's stair. It never lands. - The helicopter is available every X minutes, being able to use it multiple times in a single round. - It can be destroyed, needing a longer cooldown when this happens. - The trip starts when there's a given number or percentage of players in it. - Players are dropped with parachutes in a random point near enemy's base, retaining some control while falling and the abilty to aim and shot. (Somewhat irreal, but needed to balance the situation). |

I say add in a conquest mode like in BF2. Having to take points, then fortify them could be cool. Throw in vehicles in to the mix and it sounds better. |

i see a ww1 style tank (british mark-1) as a good concept, especially if it had to be steered via first person cabin veiw. it would rock up and down as it slowly clacked it way across no mans land. |

Tanks could be a lot of fun, or really just awful. There are two combat types for tanks: tank v. infantry, and tank v. tank. The big question is which one the tanks should focus on. If the tanks are implemented to be poor against infantry, but good against tanks (by giving it a long-reload high-caliber gun with shells that act similar to grenades, only with considerably more range), it would encourage more tank v. tank combat. Calculating shots against small, dodging infantry wouldn't be worth it unless the tank encoutered a large group of infantry. Tanks implemented this way could be a lot of fun, as long as they aren't being driven by griefers (which is probably, alas, too much to ask). They'd encourage a bit of teamwork, in the form of teamchatting the locations of hot bunkers to your tank-driving buddy. If the tanks were implemented to totally slaughter infantry, but take a bit of time against each other (by giving it a machine gun or two), it would encourage more tank vs. infantry combat. Shooting up any passing infantry would be insanely easy, because even WWI-era machine guns can put a lot of death downrange. Tanks implemented this way probably wouldn't be as fun (although they might have a bit less griefing potential). They'd encourage driving straight up to the enemy base and plowing over everything, slaughtering the enemy. It would probably seem similar to having an enemy speed- and health-hacker running through your base. Either way (and it's obvious which way I prefer), tanks should be invulnerable or extremely resistant to rifle fire, and vulnerable to grenades. This way, single, hard-to-hit infantrymen, at least in the first implementation option, would still have a chance at running up to the tank and blowing it up. Basically, a tank would be good against large groups of infantrymen and bunkers, large groups of infantrymen and bunkers would be good against single infantrymen, and single infantrymen would be good against tanks. This could be a fun, balanced mechanic, or it could suck. My opinion is that the only way to find out for sure is to try it... if it just screws everything up, it could be removed again. Tanks will definitely have to wait until we get a better anti-grief system though, because either weaponry option could make pretty short work of most structures. |
