  • Need help: manual install for aos
  •

    Hello everyone,

Could someone tell me how I could install Ace of Spades manually, because the installation program does not completely start when I run it. When I execute the program I get a "prepare to install" windows for 1 seconds and nothing else, but after that there is a msiexec.exe process working in the background.

I can extract the content of the program if I want, but there is no registery made since I could not run the installer properly.

Is there anyone who could help me?

p.s: i'm using windows xp and I was trying to use the aos026install.msi inataller.

    Do you have admin permissions?

I'm also running windows xp and I'm aving an identical problem with .54. I also downloaded .53 and have the same problem with it.

I'm logged in as Administrator. When I click on the install file it briefly gives me the "Preparing to Install" window. When I go to Task Manager/Applications it shows nothing, but in /processes I can see 3 msiexec.exe's running.

One misexec.exe is under "user name -- system" using 00 CPU and is about 4k mem usage. one msiexec.exe is under "user name -- administrator" using 00 CPU and about 9.2k mem. The interesting one is the third one that is under "user name-- administrator" using 50% CPU and 3.6k mem.

This is when it gets wierd. If I force-terminate the 50% CPU msiexec.exe then it brings up the Ace of Spades Setup Wizard! However, it appears to be frozen. It says it is preparing to install which may take a few minutes and the "next" button is grayed out. Wait 10 minutes-- nothing.

    more to follow

very unusual... after force-terminating the 50% CPU msiexec.exe it also calls up a new msiexec.exe with 50 CPU usage.

A couple of times after force-terminating the first 50% CPU msiexec.exe it brought me to the setup wizard with clickable next button. But then it hangs on the install progress. Once (but not every time) when I force-terminate the replacement 50%CPU msiexec.exe (after hanging on install progress) it then appeared to install the game. But then froze up again on the "finish" page. "Finish" button is clickable but does nothing.

Sounds like you have a virus.

Ok so I eventually got it to install by consistently using Tasm Manager to force-terminate the msiexec.exe that was using 50% CPU. Sometimes when I did that it would advance me along to the next installation stage. Eventually leaving me at the finish window, which I again force-terminated and then it put the weblink to the servers on my desktop and I can now join servers and play.

I hope this information helps the devs and also any players with this install problem.

Hmmm, I'm running a good antivirus program with active anti-virus protection which catches and kills all the crud I run into. But I agree this is unusual behavior for an installation program Yet the behavior is identical to the previous user's post. My gut tells me its not a virus but some quirk with windows xp and the installation program. I'll run a full computer-wide virus scan tonight and report back.

The only time msiexec.exe runs on my computer is when I am installing Ace of Spades...so if you are thinking that is the virus, its not, its the install program. Its just wierd.

Do you use the noscript add-on with Firefox? It, along with some good common sense is all the anti-virus protection a person needs.
