First of all the SMG is weaksauce and cant kill for crap. 0.54, I am disappoint. |

i got 4 kills within 3 minutes you just suck ass |

No, I think I'll agree with OP. Shotgun would have been infinitely more useful than this piece of garbage. There's still far too much recoil. |

Fire in small bursts, crouch when possible, and scope. grenades and SMG work hand in hand |

Wow, I can kill a sniper with 15 bullets mid-range You just suck Operator |
#36122 Space101 Gatekeeper Posted 14 years ago |

yeah, even if you do that the rifle is still superior |

i guess but all you have to do is aim at the torso and unload into them bye the time you see them go down your clip will be half empty or if you keep spraying it will be empty and the shotgun would be hard for me to use anyway ... well prob not cause everyone moves so slow on this |

I can still snipe fine, it's no different for me at all. And the smg is fine, if you really hate it then don't use it, but like Icee77 said, crouch and fire in bursts. I actually like the smg, it was useful when I was holding the building on the island in the harbor map. |

I don't have huge complaints about the SMG (aside from how easily it breaks blocks), but the rifle needs its old accuracy back. I can still snipe, but not quite as well as before. |

actually i don't even crouch i can stand up and just do hip fire :) |

sorry the SMG is great. You honestly just suck if you think it's bad. |

Yeah the SMG is pretty amazing, honestly. Just don't take it with you on a sniping trip and you'll be fine. Edit: took me a while to get used to it at first |

The SMG is balanced but not fun because it's unclear when you're out of range. I'd prefer if it had more accuracy and just decreased damage at distance, with a hud indicator of how much damage you are doing. The game with pure semi's and client-only hit registration was extremely crisp. This patch has reduced clarity a lot, so the game feels "mushy" now; I can't feel sure about hits anymore, and I get lag spikes and disconnects from busy servers very frequently. |

Also, the game's pace is glacial now because of SMG inaccuracy. The semi remains a better weapon for run+gun rushing because you don't have to crouch to hit with it - it can be used on the move with very good reliability. The SMG is like something out of Counter-Strike - move slowly, crouch often, stay in cover, take pot shots. Completely different game style. |

I also seem to be part of the minority who love the SMG. It forces you to play smarter, as you can't just duke it out at range with a rifleman. Fire and maneuver is the name of the game with this gun. Being good with grenades also helps immensely. Also, close quarter urban maps are excellent with this weapon, however, wide open spaces are a nightmare. I was on Sham's server, and on Normandie, I was loving it, then we switched to Skybridge and I noticed a huge increase in difficulty with this gun. I hope we see more CQB-styled maps created with the release of this gun. And to all the people hating on this gun, let me ask you one thing; Does anyone force you to use the SMG? |

SMG is fun as hell. I just got back from spending an hour and a half sneaking into the enemy's front lines and shooting people that came by my way. Got 3-4 kills a life, 6-7 if I was doing well. |

i've loved this gun since i first played with it :P |

The SMG is really fun. I tore open a bunker and killed 3 blues easily. With any less recoil it would be too overpowered. I think a shotgun would be better, but still. The rifle now has messed up aim though. |

This new gun can be useful. For example, i was recently playing on a pinpoint server. The Blues were all stationed in a large, well made tower. None of our Greens could move forward because they kept getting killed by tower snipers, and every time we killed a tower sniper another one would take it's place. Then I got an idea. "FIRE AT THE TOWER! GET AN SMG AND KEEP FIRING AT IT". Almost all of our Greens opened fire on the tower with SMGs, and a few minutes later the tower was gone, and our troops were able to move up. |

the SMG i actually overpowered in its destruction of blocks, it shouldn't be able to do that, at all.... i would have rather had a mounted machine gun, one that would have actively forced the user to remain stationary during firing. well that and a cement block (a block that is resistant to gunfire) |
#36249 grendle Member Posted 14 years ago |

I think the SMG's block-breaking capabilities need to be diminished slightly (5-6 hits per block, preferably). Other than that, I think it's a great gun. It'd be somewhat better balanced if the rifle was still as accurate as it used to be, however. Since the update I've seen increasing SMG use and a pretty sharp decrease in rifle use. A majority of players seem to prefer the SMG. |

Dear Grendle, Cement blocks, you say? |

SMG is amazing for maps like Broville. The only reason somebody might say it would suck is if they were trying to use it on a really open randomly generated map or something. |

I tried the 0.53 (less-accurate) SMG on a genmap pretty extensively, and I have to say it actually preformed pretty well. It put me at a slight disadvantage compared to a rifle user, but it still did well even to the fog distance by way of sheer volume of fire. Crouch, sight in, and fire in medium-short bursts (three to five shots), and it'll serve. |

Unfortunately, the votekicking UI isn't a votekicking UI, it's still down in the chat where nobody sees it, and it has less status info than serverbot does. I was 50/50 on stopping griefers with it on harbor. Does teamkilling still work? It's not mentioned in the changelog, but I didn't seem to be able to teamkill griefers. But maybe it was because I was trying to do it with the SMG. |

I'm surprised adding an automatic weapon doesn't make it feel like call of duty. I love the new SMG |

The new votekick system isn't the best, but it's still really good. We kicked a greifer within like 30 seconds using it. |

@mega-deuce really the cement blocks aren't so much about realism as much as giving value to fortress construction, making it so a bunker or a fort in a hill is a area worth capturing, and won't be cut down by a single guy with a rifle, |
