I think that you should be able to choose between grenades and land mines like you are allowed to choose guns. The developer would need to program it so you can only have so many within a certain distance so it would be still possible to get to the intel. Also had the idea that if land mines are in the game, to disable them or set them off you could shoot them and it could hurt anybody. I like the sound of having a land mine option, would be great for tunnels!!! Lemme know what you guys think. |

Good in theory. 1. They disappear if you die. That would make it seem like a more balanced idea to me. |

That would be cool, as long as you could tell they were landmines when looking at the, and could blow them up by shooting. Because I could imagine it being impossible to get close to the enemies intel if there's 50 invisible land mines around it. |

Yah, being able to trigger them with bullets would be necessary. |

Would these be block sized, smaller, or just a modification to the block's texture? Cool idea, one of the only ideas I've seen on here that isn't horribad or CoD Seriously, we need a suggestion board. |

Please use the search button before posting a new topic. I'd be against them instantly going away when you died- many well placed traps will never get the guy that killed you in this case. It would be better if they stayed around for another minute or so before disappearing. I wouldn't want them to be a choice instead of grenades either. Just give the player both. |

No, thats like saying you should give the player both guns. Both guns have different styles, rapid fire and 1 shot. One is thrown and explodes after a certain time, whilst a mine can sit stationary until an enemy passes over. |

Thankyou for defining the difference between a mine and a grenade, and the difference between the two guns. Clearly I was having trouble telling them apart.... |

how many items can the map support? I'm picturing like 100s of landmines all over the map |

I wonder what would happen if all 32 people on a server threw both of their grenades into one spot all at the same time? |

That's how Hiroshima happened. |

Anyone care to organize such an event? To see if such an action could crash a server, what with everybody dying and respawning at the exact same time, not to mention all the grenades and explosions the client would have to render. |

I could do that. |

What else could be added to this game for explosives? |

I think I'm in support of the grenades OR mines idea. If mines were implemented, to start with they should be as powerful as grenades, with the explosion centered in the block they're placed on top of. Appearance could be a small, round raised section on top of the block they're placed on, colored to match the block they're placed on. They should probably be extremely difficult to see long-range, but easier to spot if you're just one or two blocks away (so that if you're advancing slowly and watching the ground, your caution is rewarded). As to despawning... I'd say give each player a limit of placed mines, say four or five. That way risky trips into open fields to lay mines will be worth it even if you get killed. If mines dissapeared upon death, people would just place a bunch of them around the intel and then camp in the tent (or a hole in the ground) to avoid getting killed so that their mines are effective. Limits could be kept track of using a system similar to the ammo counter for the guns, <number of mines on you> - <number of mines you can still place without cancelling some>. Of course, those are just ideas. I think landmines could be fun, though. Just keep them from getting to CoD-Claymore-ish, say by requiring them to have a certain amount of blocks under them and/or over them, to encourage use in open fields (more like real combat from that era) and discourage protecting a camper's back in his bunker. |

Since when were landmines fun? They encourage camping and random deaths. Ok forget I posted, I know you guys camping and slow-or-die gameplay. |

Nah, I like being able to advance and having some fast-paced action. Still, a few landmines here and there could add to the overall thrill. That's my biggest concern about the landmine idea, actually, that campers would use it like a razorback from TF2 to make sure nobody can get at them the first time around. |
