The sniper rifle vote has been rigged by an individual using alternate Ip addresses and proxy servers/sites.

To test my theory, i waited 30 secs and checked again, the vote increased by 10, also most of the votes when i ran a trace came back as anonymous, showing a proxy was being used.

No, he'd have to make a new poll i guess, and use more sophisticated tracking ware so changing or masking your IP wont work.

Or (if i was him) id disqualify the sniper rifle votes. After all we already have a dammed sniper rifle.

He's using a third-party poll service. You really can't prevent this from happening, anyone can change their IP. The only other way to do it is to store some sort of cookie or local shared object to "remember" that person voted, but again, this can be easily bypassed.

Unfortuantly yes, your completely right, i just felt the need to make this thread, so that ben didnt get a misrepresented view that the community wants a sniper rifle ( we already have one) instead of what everyone have been crying out for =P.

Yeah, the sniper-rifle votes are almost definitely fraudulent. All the data earlier indicated that almost nobody wanted a sniper rifle, so to see it suddenly in the lead now is highly suspicious. Some skiddie is attempting to manipulate the game's development to his own gain to the detriment of other users.

I'm not a big fan of a shotgun myself, but I'm willing to concede that both talk on the forums and the poll itself show that it's the most popular idea for a new gun. My opinion on the matter is that shotguns should be added and the rifle should be brought back to its old accuracy (or something very near it). Players can snipe again (which was very fun, I loved the pre-0.53 rifle and apparently a lot of other people did as well), the community would get its much-wanted shotgun, and the CoD kiddie who's screwing with the poll doesn't get his 1337 xXsnypxorzXx riflol!!!111!!!1!!!.

I lol'd, and yes your right, I'd like ben to disqualify the sniper rifle from the poll immeditaly, after he looks back at the data and looks at the threads on here, he'll see that people wanted the shotgun.

Why cant ben just make it so you vote with your forums account? yeah some people have multiple accounts but it would probably be better then what we have now, maybe make it so the account had to be active for a week prior to the poll or something to be valid?

Ben probably already knew it before we did, he's a clever guy.
Even with the rigging, it's sparked debate and shown what people most want: A new primary weapon, a weak secondary weapon and incorporated melee.
Oh and another quick note DE: rather than double post, edit one.

I voted for sniper because I'm not sure if the semi will be returned to its previous accuracy. I don't see the point in another automatic weapon. I guess a shotgun as a powerful close range weapon would be nice, a slow, heavier close weapon to accompany the fast and light smg.

If we add the shotgun the game becomes more balanced, we'll have a long range, mid range and close range weapon.

What is the mid-range weapon? The SMG?

I think the SMG should be replaced with a LMG/GPMG. Then it would be an even more capable mid-range weapon while leaving the close-range combat solely to the shotgun (assuming the shotgun gets chosen).
