  • Gameplay Tips - 50 of them
  •

1.) Don't do this when a bullet flies past you, you hear it hit a block near you, or you get shot.

2.) If you hear shovel(s) duck and look below you, you can see through the ground for a reason.

3.) Digging the intel into the ground is 9000000000000x less effective than putting it on a tower. If you thwart the enemy a certain amount of times from getting the intel, they're eventually just going to dig to it. If it's already underground, sure, you can camp them because they'll be stuck in a tight enclosed space, but what if there's more than one of them and you don't kill both. The other one will get it, and no one on your team can stop them because they don't know where they are (unless you can effectively communicate where they are in less than 10 seconds, and just saying 'under the intel' or 'underground' won't work in most cases')

4.) Always give yourself a grace step behind wherever you're shooting from if you're attempting to seclude yourself. By default, the kv6 for the gun sticks out much further than it looks like on your screen.

5.) If you miss, immediately take cover, do NOT continue shooting (if you're hidden) unless you're already discovered. If you immediately take cover, then resume shooting a good 15 seconds later, they're bound to have continued going their path.

6.) Always snipe the last one in the pack. If you shoot someone in front of someone else, you're discovered (if they're not idiots), it's that simple.

7.) Use scare tactics, if the enem'y hiding behind a wall, and they saw you, shoot at their vicinity with or without the intent of scaring them. THat way they'll withdraw back into their space, and you can move out to another place to shoot them from.

8.) Don't throw two grenades just for the hell of it. If one fails, the secnod one will more than likely fail.

9.) If the intel is in the water, if possible, attempt to cover it. Do you know how extremely slow you move when you're forced to crouch in water?

10.) If you're only only like 2 inches steps away from the CP and you're at 25 health, and you're sure you've killed everything. Don't move out, recover, THEN move back out.

11.) Use water to your advantage. If you're crouching in water, it's a lot harder to get a headshot (or any shot at all), and ontop of that, water seems to be the last place people look when they get shot.

12.) Be quick building and breaking: Being shot at on open ground? Generally if they're on a mountain, and you're in some plains/flat land, you lose if you just continue shooting at them. Use scare tactics, then when they withdraw, dig into the ground/build a quick cheap wall.

13.) You don't have to spazz click to build. Just hold the button down.

14.) Don't chase after people who withdraw into holes, remember, they know how to maneuver through the hole, chances are if you go in there, they're just waiting for you to come in and get shot. (if they can withdraw into it, they're probably able to camp people who enter it)

15.) Always destroy enemy forts that are built in a place that can shoot you/your allies easily.

16.) Don't build forts with a brighter version of your team's color (unles it blends with the map), when I'm on green, and I see a huge bright blue fort, I'm going to break it.

17.) Build ORGANICALLY SHAPED BASES. Better yet, just burrow into hills/mountains. If I'm getting sniped, the first place I'm going to look is at the perfectly geometrically shaped plain grey cube with a bunch of holes in it.

18.) The closer you get to the enemy's half of the map, the less defined your forts should be. (This goes along with bright colors/perfectly shaped). If you're in your own territory, it's expected that there's an enemy fort, there's no need to hide it then. It's YOUR territory, when you're on their half, make the fort as organic is possible.

19.) The less holes in your fort, the harder it is to spot (Especially on a map that's already been destroyed for 2 or 3 hours), generally, I burrow into a hill, make a room about 2x2x2 (enough room to crouch and move aorund in) and put a hole off-center towards the main route of the enemy. and I usually sit in a corner inside of the room so that if I shoot from it, and the enemy does look in the tiny hole, they won't see my whole body, just a tiny portion of it, that will be nearly unnoticeable if it's not moving in the distance.

20.) If most of the enemy team is in some wild tangent on the outskirts of the map, and someone has your intel, cut straight through the center of the map. You'll beat them to the CP.

21.) If you see the enemy CP, mark it with a red X, or something, and tell your team. That way if the intel's taken they know exactly what direction to head in.

22.) If you're digging to their intel and you hear footsteps, don't keep digging like an idiot, they know you're going to the intel, they'll just snuff you out of the ground. Dig at an odd pace, so that it just sounds like someone breaking a wall in the distance.

23.) Building the intel on a 1x1x64 tower doesn't do anything but waste 3 bullets from the enemy's clip.

24.) If you get shot twice in the chest cavity, don't even bother trying to kill them back if you can't already find them. Just jump and cycle around so you can see the general vicinity of their bullet trail, so that if they do kill you, you know where they are. (no point in being discrete about looking for them, they're already shooting at you)

25.) When you get the enemy intel, take an unpredictable route. If on the way to their intel, you see someone, and shoot them, taking that route back will probably result in you dropping the intel.

26.) Tunneling isn't all as effective as it seems. I've only lost the intel to a tunneler twice.

27.) You're in the enemy camp, you shoot someone, don't get trolled.
    Example:
Enemy: OMFG UR SUCH A CAMPER NEWB!
You: OMG NO I'M NO- shot

28.) If you duck in cover behind a wall, don't stand back up exactly where you ducked at. After the third time you stand up in the same spot, you're probably going to get headshot as soon as you come back up.

29.) If you're making a hidden route to the enemy's side of the map, make it able to be retraced in case you die. Building steep lines up a build will get you up the building the fastest, sure, and digging straight downwards then tunneling forward will get you up fastest. But you're going to die eventually. And if you plan on doing it again, having that route easily accessible a second time is helpful.

30.) Pick enemies off one by one. The chances of you running into a group of 2-5 enemies and headshotting them both close up is very slim, if you see them and somehow none of them see you, hide, after the last one passes you, start attacking from behind.

31.) If an ally dies near you, act dead as well. THe enemy can't see your names, so if he just sees heads popping up and down behind a wall, you can probably fool him into believing there was only one of you, and if heads stop popping up after the ally is dead, then they're going to lower their guard and advance.

32.) Being shot at directly from the front? Duck and use your ironsight immediately.
I know this is said on the wiki, but it's obviously never read. DUCKING AND USING IRONSIGHT CUMULATIVELY REDUCE GUNSHOT RECOIL

33.) Enemy' score, 4-5, your score, 1-5. Your team's headed out for their intel: Swallow your pride and protect it ffs. You've already got the advantage in that you're in your own territory (I'm assuming the intel's on your side), a well built tower can add 20 seconds to the enemy's venture in getting the intel.

34.) Moats. They work. Try it.

35.) Enemy has the intel, and is almost out of sight, just shoot. Chances are enemies are escorting them/near them so if you go after them, you're bound to get shot. Better to at least get one leg shot so that if by chance a teammate encounters them they're wounded, than to scare them by chasing them and only getting a mouthful of bullets/shooting one of the escorts.

36.) Just because you're in a higher position than your opponent doesn't mean you have Gmod on.

37.) Hmmmm... I have a rifle... SMGer around corner waiting for me...this

38.) Got vital info for the team, make suer you're actually team-chatting.

39.) Decoy intels work. 6x6 box (it's not really 7x7)

40.) You're at the enemy CP, no one is around, enemy's headed back to CP with intel. Dig the CP into the ground, then build a decoy CP ontop of it, that way from first glance, the CP looks like fake, and the enemy with the intel will probably keep looking. In the meantime, keep building decoys.

41.) You spawn. You feel like following. See someone moving towards your team building. They're no longer eligible. See someone moving towards coordinates at the top/bottom of the map? Preferred choice.

42.) Communicate. If you have a good team, when you say "[BLANK] is near the intel" they're going to guard it. Take advantage of that.

43.) On a server, you see two people of the same clan on the same team. Chances are they're following each other, so if you kill one........ don't move just yet.

44.) Wanna build a camouflauged sniping spot? Okay, then making the pointy part ontop of the tree 20 blocks taller isn't ideal.

45.) If you kill someone in a hotzone for enemies and you're alone, do a safety procedure.
    1.) Crouch, 2.) Peek 3.) wait 4.) peek 5.) Move out.

46.) Have an SMG? Don't like reading the wiki? Shoot in short bursts with durations that depend on your distance, bitch.

47.) The rifle has a 'cone' or whatever that's making people shit tears and cry fecal matter, an I find that aiming somewhat below their head seems to fix it (in most cases), this may not be true, but hell, it generally works for me.

48.) Don't use the default Ironsight. It looks really cool compared to most others, but any ironsight that takes up too much of the screen is bad. I'm using the ironsight from the WWII pack in the folder that's all like "DONT OPEN OGMOGMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG" Works fine for me (I had to add a dot in the middle of it though)

49.) If you're being shot at from two perpendicular or adjacent spots, being a fainting goat is acceptable.

    50.) what?

    other cheaper/less important tips:

1.) Don't use a mousepad, this is the most annoying thing to play an FPS with (I have one, and have had one for all shooters because I just really cbf to change now that its been so long)

2.) Wasting a hole clip on a dead enemy's head just so they can hear you mocking them or T-bagging them will probably lead to them going straight back to that spot to kill you (Even if they don't talk alot). So if you insist on camping, and no one seems to be coming by, take advantage of that.

3.) Can't think of anything else

IT says the intel is 7x7 but when I made a 7x7 box it was obviously larger than the actual intel, so I made it 6x6 and it was perfectly sized. The wiki is wrong on that one.

Also, yes, pits do work. Because if someone tries to dig to the intel, they eventually be in an open area (although it increases the chance of them collaqpsing your intel tower because it will be in the center of the pit), however, the wider the pit and intel tower, the better.

I've seen some really good intel towers, I've even seen some good intel towers that were built underground, but I really like YourMom's intel tower's, so I copied his, works every time. Took 30 minutes for the enemy team to get our intel (and I was the only one guarding)

EDIT: The more open ground the enemy has to go through to reach the intel, the better.

    Two building tips:
    1. Try to cover the top of your building with the landscape color, this will make it harder for your enemies to plan an offence when they can only see it when within sniper range.

    2. If you have an inside wall behind your sniper holes, replace it with the same color as the default model of your team. This will make it hard for the enemy to pick out where your head is since most of it is that color. Warning: Will not work for everyone, only most.

    One last tip:
To make a crude breaching charge, find a wall (prefer a thicker wall, maybe two-three blocks thick), dig about two blocks into said wall about two blocks up, then throw in a grenade aiming for it to land on the second block in for maximum breaching power, move to the side, after grenade goes off move in, ????, Profit.

@Illimvra: In short, be the most pragmatic, dirty-handed, backstabbing bastard that you can be. (Without using hacks, winners don't use hacks. O v O d)

@39 ("decoy intels work"): There is a simply way to find out which of the intel markers on the map is the real intel. Stack up blocks beneath yourself so that you get higher and higher while regularly checking the map - the real intel will at some point have the white height-marker shown under it!

(Alternatively, grab to the ground if necessary and check for the "intel-above-you" marker.)
