    Could you make the game so you can see other people mods/reskins?
    I would make all my stuff have a british flag on it...

    I'm sorry that the game you commissioned us to make isn't turning out exactly how you like, Dany0.

    Oh wait.

    Hello, I am a C++ coder. Do you have contact information? (I'm assuming this isn't all just one big hoax)

    However I should note I have never worked with the voxlap engine.

    coder = a guy that types code

    programmer = a guy that solves programming problems

    Choose one, because you guys need a programmer. Plus I've already posted an email to a programmer that has already programmed in voxlap before.

    So consider that one more time.

    You sir are wrong, both those words are synonyms for the same exact thing. Both coders and programmers write code and fix problems.

    Where's the joy in learning yourself if you're just going to go and ask for help? Let these fine chaps at RoT have their fun learning the difficulty of making a game.

    Programmer.
    Coder.

    I think you're trolling. Either that or a narcissistic, egotistical maniac.

    "4. justin_saunders asks:
    Many people consider you to be one of the best programmers in the game/graphics scene, based on your ability to keep pushing the limits of current PC hardware.

    I was wondering what measures you use to gauge the skill of a programmer, and who, if anyone, you look up to and consider to be a "great" programmer.

    John Carmack Answers:
    Like most things, it is difficult to come up with a single weighted sum of the value of a programmer. I prefer to evaluate multiple axis independently.

    Programming is really just the mundane aspect of expressing a solution to a problem. There are talents that are specifically related to actually coding, but the real issue is being able to grasp problems and devise solutions that are detailed enough to actually be coded.

    Being able to clearly keep a lot of aspects of a complex system visualized is valuable.

    Having a good feel for time and storage that is flexible enough to work over a range of ten orders of magnitude is valuable.

    Experience is valuable.

    Knowing the literature is valuable.

    Being able to integrate methods and knowledge from different fields is valuable.

    Being consistent is valuable.

    Being creative is valuable.

    Focus is extremely important. Being able to maintain focus for the length of a project gets harder and harder as schedules grow longer, but it is critical to doing great work. (Side note - every time "focus" is mentioned now, I think of Vernor Vinge's "A Deepness in the Sky", currently my favorite SF novel)

    I certainly respect the abilities of my primary competitors. Back in the DOOM days, Ken Silverman was extremely impressive, and today Tim Sweeney is producing much of value.

    ..."

    From http://brajeshwar.com/2007/are-you-a-programmer-or-a-coder/

    "Some industry experts have put in that — if programming requires a post graduate level of knowledge of complex algorithms and programming methods, coding requires only high school knowledge of the subject. Coding is deemed repetitive and monotonous.

    Also this visualizes it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-hYbWs2dPg

    There should be a 'Friendship' mode, where you're running around throwing donuts at hungry children, or cleaning the dishes for your elderly neighbor or something. Except it'd be all extreme like 'Backflip through that explosion in time to hug the cancer patient'. That would be radical.

    A programmer, computer programmer or coder is someone who writes computer software. The term computer programmer can refer to a specialist in one area of computer programming or to a generalist who writes code for many kinds of software.

    Someone must've edited Wikipedia again...

    @Pulchritude, Dany0:
    You both receive warnings for your little flame war.
    I shall remove most of the off-topic stuff that was a result of it.

    The rest of you who were commenting on the petty debate: don't post in response to anything like this, come tell us at #aos.forums instead. If you get involved in any form then you shall be warned like they are. And with our new system, it'll all count.

    @Galaxy:
    You are warned for an inappropriate tag.

    I find this severely biased. I did not flame Dany0 at all, and one of his posts flaming me is still up there and as such, I would like said warning removed.

    No status report at the moment. We're still on the concept stage (hard to program when you don't know what you're doing),

    Project is NOT in development hell. Again, we're still on the concept stage.

    @Dan
    I'll keep you in mod as a project manager, assuming we get to that stage where we have an actual game compiled.

    Being a current high school student and working alone with the programming, progress WILL be slow.

    OR because I'm trying to find the perfect balance between school, social life and leisure that will still permit me to make said game. Keep in mind that I am not a professional and am not getting paid to do this fulltime.

    Not all of us can be basement dwellers with no life and nothing better to do, sorry.
