  • Custom Ironsights pack- just for you
  • 12

Overjoyed with the new ability to use custom sights ingame, I've made a few different styled ones and tested them out. They all work fine and will appeal to a range of players. Click the names for previews.

    CROSSHAIR ONLY:

The simplest of the lot. You get the zoom of ironsights, plus the aiming reticule from hip fire.

    BOLTLESS IRONSIGHT:

For those complaining about the bolt on the side, and the vertical line that blocks the aim
from view, this slightly modified ironsight puts paid to both problems, but you still have a
sixth of the screen blacked out like the original. That's ironsights for you...

    OLD SCHOOL SIGHTS:

My personal favourite, this has all the features of crosshair only, but also includes the rifle
pointing up from the corner. This allows for zoom without the gun wrecking your view, as seen in such pre-ironsight games as Goldeneye and Battlefield 1942.

Because the image area doesn't cover the whole screen, there is a limit to how far left or right the image can go. With the old school sights, the rifle is at the extreme right hand side of the image, so is as far to the side as it can get.

Download the custom sights pack here:

Here you a gallery of some ironsights I've found online. Of course you can't just use them ingame but have to edit them to make them fit the 400x400px size. Just as a reference.

I've tried to edit one of the ironsights to match to AoS. This is the best I've managed so far. (I don't have Photoshop atm.) But it kind of sucks ingame because of the hard edges left and right.
Maybe it's kind of an inspiration for you. :P

Yeah the edges of the image area is a bit restrictive. If it covered the whole screen, it would be possible to make a scope sight, with blurred blackness all around the edges.

But anyway- rest assured that all my sights are sized properly- have been tested in-game, and deliver their shots on their mark.

I prefer a simpler sight syle to go with the blocky textures.
If Ben allows the guns to have higher resolution/dimensions then that type of sight design would be best to go along with the added realism.

I was going to say that if you like the blocky look then the old school sights would be right up your alley, but now having seen your own ironsight, it looks like you meant something much more like the boltless. Is that what you meant by a simple style to match the blocky look? Or did you mean something like the old school one afterall?

    Yes, it's a gewher 43, never been a secret.

Besides, it's fun when people say it's a WWI game, when the only weapon in the game was created in 1943...

i noticed it could be a gewher when playing CoD2 recently, and people associate AoS with WW1 because of its trench-based gameplay, and because not all people know it is a gewher

hmm, didn't the ironsight have a checksum on them to prevent tampering? the 'crosshair only' ironsight is practically cheating!!! (compared to the original which is pretty hard to use)

Hmmm... never tried 256 colors I don't think. Never had any luck with the compatibility mode, but thanks for the advice!

the game only runs in 32bit color mode I don't think 256 color mode will fix anything. If anything you want to up your 16 bit color to 32bit

... EDIT: nvm you mean for that other game DUR

I said practically cheating... either the regular iron sights needs to be better, or protected so people don't have an unfair advantage...

how come having an extra open space in the bottom of your screen is cheating? enemies would often pop at the center of the screen or above

'practically cheating' because the regular iron sights really suck imo. it's really hard to aim with them. It's obviously not ACTUALLY cheating because there is no check for it, but it gives you a huge advantage.

hard to aim? why? its the best you can since the aim is two pixels wide, if you put just one for extra precision you'll end up with an inaccurate sight, explain to me why do you find it hard to aim with them

because you can't see the target, if you are going for a headshot, the rest of the target is completely blocked. especially at long range where you have white fog vs black iron sights. its REALLY hard to track a target with iron sights on. I end up aiming down, and then snapping up to take the shot. without the big black thing blocking the body of the target it'd be much easier to track and shoot them.

I'm getting a bit sick of seeing all these 'cheating' comments. It is NOT cheating. It is available to everyone.

You talk about how difficult it is to use the original sights like it's a good thing. Not everyone likes being forced to play like they have Parkinson's disease when using the sights. A game should always show you if the shot you fired hit it's mark. The default ironsights block your shot from view. Having to whip it down or look exclusively at the chatlog to see if you got them is NOT smooth gameplay. You can't even see the blood spray that is supposed to let you know you scored a hit.

Editing the ironsights and the ability to do so has changed the gameplay for the better. You want to use the old system? Go ahead. You still can, and nobody can stop you. But don't start complaining when everyone else decides to use a sight that is far less clunky.

Removing the checksum was far nicer of Ben than bringing it back would ever be. I have no idea why you see it as nicer the other way. You play the game YOUR way, and at least have the common decency to let us play it OUR way.

Awesome, but on the simple sight, the top and bottom are cut of a little.

Well cmon guys. It is not cheating and it is not even like cheating. Everyone can have that advantage. Just download this thing that has normal hipfire scope and you will see just perfectly - i personally prefer my white dot tho. Cheating would mean that you break the rules of the game, thus gaining unfair advantage over other players. This is just making a skin, not giving any advantage in accuracy and very little advantage in aiming, considering that everyone can just come here, dl one of these and tadaa.
