ALSO(Server Operator's Note): Because there's so much detail in the map it's considerably larger than most AoS maps(over 4mb in this build, vs. 2mb for vanilla maps). Watch out! Sweet concept! maps like this are going to be sooo good when server owners have more control over their servers e.g. indestructible blocks too keep the buildings from being destroyed. |

just fyi map names can't have underscores in them, only letters and numbers are acceptable otherwise the server won't load them running on aloha uswest atm |

Woops on the name. I did that with the first version of Mesa too, but that was weeks ago. (also pyspades doesn't have that issue.) |

I'm guessing slab6. It's easy to make one floor of a building and then you can copy it. |

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. It's using bitmap generator for the landscape and slab6 for buildings, which are then placed one by one. That's the only reason why the map isn't completely filled with buildings and concrete. The next version is likely to be radically different but I won't get to it for a while. Too busy with work. |

The progress is "Making some tech to implement my ideas." If I just pound away with Voxed I can make one good map, but now that I've learned the domain of AoS maps and what's important and hard to get right I think my time is best spent on making the tools to do it fast. So I'm starting with basic procedural landscape techniques, and will gradually build my way back to Harbor. As this happens, I will release some other maps as a form of tech demo, along this roadmap: 1. Landscape demos: generation of interesting heightmaps and decorating them according to different biomes(plains, forest, desert, etc.) Once I have all 3 things, doing new versions of Harbor, and many other kinds of maps, will be easy. A part 4, which I can leave out for now, is to integrate caves and man-made undergrounds(tunnels, sewer lines, basements, parking garages...) into the map generation process. Anyway, if I'm motivated I might be able to release something in part 1 very soon. I have some fine heightmaps being made, they just need more color :) |
