  • Disgraceful behaviour on server

Uh, players already do have tools. It's called "/votekick".

Something that bums me out is sometimes people votekick you when you haven't done anything. If one person can be manipulative enough, he can convince others to votekick you. But that's not something wrong with Ben's implementation of the votekick; rather, it's something inherently wrong with voting itself. On one server I was on, everyone was griefing. I rebuilt structures and teamkilled griefers. Take a guess for what happened.

Oh, and Ace of Spades is a mature game. It is a game about killing people. Please don't use the excuse of "there's children playing!" because this is a game targeted at older audiences, unlike Minecraft (which is target at the 9-14 age range)

Eh, Minecraft seems to be targeted at EVERYBODY. I can't say I've ever heard a tale of someone who's tried Minecraft for an hour and still disliked it. But of course that's not the real issue here.

Yeah, you'll get unjustly kicked. Sometime's it's admins, sometimes it's the other players (fun fact: I once got kicked from a PySpades server before I even had a chance to say something to defend myself, by a votekick started by a griefer I had teamkilled repeatedly. Not fun). In the case of the server hosts being jerks, what the heck. Don't play on their servers if you don't like their rules. In the case of other players, I really wish we had sign-up accounts, requiring an email address, and a master kick/ban list. The specifics of the system would need some careful implementation, but overall it could delay griefers rejoining servers.

I can see people using the "There's kids playing!" to justify the removal/punishment of swearing and making offensive images or phrases on the map. The violence in AoS isn't particularly graphic... the game would probably be rated "E 10+" on the market for "Cartoon violence."

Nobody under the age of 13 should even be on the internet unsupervised, at least in the US and many members of the EU, according to law. I don't doubt that there's many kids that break this law, but legally speaking AoS doesn't encourage this violation, so Ben can't be held responsible for these kids' actions. In fact, he'd be following the law more closely if he started restricting access to prevent anyone under the age of 13 from playing AoS. I think it would also cut back on griefers a bit... I'm certain every griefer I've ever encountered has been a minor, and responably sure at that a good many of them have been 12 or younger.
