  • Simple class ideas

    Here are some class ideas, simple but effective. The only difference in classes is their equipment (or how it works) and health available.

    Builder- Spawns with 75 blocks, one grenade, 20 rifle ammo, 3/4 health. Blocks placed take 10 shots to destroy via gun. (resistance to picks/shovels unchanged)

    Stormtrooper- Spawns with 25 blocks, 2 grenades, 50 rifle ammo, full health

    Defender- Spawns with 0 blocks, one grenade, 30 rifle ammo, shovel & pick work 33% faster on natural blocks (blocks spawned with the map, not laid down by players) full health

    Saboteur- Spawns with 0 blocks, one grenade, 30 rifle ammo, shovel & pick work 33% faster on unnatural blocks (blocks placed by players on the enemy team) 3/4 health

    MEDIIIIIIIC- Spawns with 10 special blocks that can only be applied directly to players. Application takes 15 seconds and heals 50 health. 0 grenades, 20 rifle ammo, 3/4 health

    Feel free to critique, this was a passing thought out of boredom.

    Wait, I havent played the acutual game yet, do you have to obtain blocks and ammos and health? In case of that, I think this would be pretty cool if you remove the stormtrooper and saboteur and just add a Scout and Soldier class.

    You realize that the stormtrooper is the current setup, right?

    And you start with full health, the specialist classes half 3/4 health to encourage teamwork (i.e. protect the medic!). Also: what do you mean by scout/soldier?

    No, this actually encourages teamwork without giving different weapons and/or overpowered things.

    Nice class ideas, dude. Medics are really needed. =P In addition I'd add a sniper. He would have a longer sight and deals more damage on a larger distance. Maybe different classes could use different weapons.

    Edit: Sniper would deal less damage on short distance.

    Eh, snipers would be an iffy add, not only because they don't really go with the time period but also because the main rifle does a good job at being a sniper in the first place. Although I can see a class using the default rifle modded to have a scope + more recoil, along with the more damage with more distance idea

    Guess they had an early form of a sniper, but yea, the default rifle really rocks the way it is. =P Give it a scope and u'll have a sniper, that's right.

    updated class ideas:

    Sniper- Spawns with 0 blocks, 0 grenades, 75 rifle ammo, 3/4 health. Rifle is modded to have a long range scope (which has a side effect of increasing recoil), rifle does less damage at short range (damage is calculated by the amount of tiles between where the shot is taken and where it hits the enemy). Marked enemies appear flashing red when scoped in on. While scoped in, the player cannot move.
    ====================================================
    Spotter- spawns with 0 blocks, 1 binoculars, 25 rifle ammo, 3/4 health. Binoculars are to replace grenades, and can be used to mark a location for 30 seconds on the minimap (visible to allies) or an enemy for 15 seconds (visible to allies). Limited to 2 "spots" a minute.

    Clearly, these classes were designed to work in a team (as snipers in real life often do)

    I like the idea of the Spotter. Would be nice to have a small dot on a radar or something.

    The Sporter would also be limited to how many he could spot per min as well otherwise all you have is lines of spots on the screen :P

    Stormtrooper is more of a WWII thing, you might want to think of a different name. If classes are added, they should be relevant to current gameplay. Such as the current setup for a normal soldier, then a class for miner/digger/whatever you want to call it. They would be given stronger versions of the spade and pickaxe and a weaker rifle to balance it out. There could also be the builder, who begins with a fairly large amount of blocks and a weak rifle.

    about the sniper thing there where snipers don't really know what american snipers there were but the Germans had th PTRS it was gas powered with scope. Also instead of blue and green teams this might be taking from other games but you could use countrys like america and Germany.

    The rifle is pretty effective as a sniper already, I don't see why we need to give the sniper pros even more reason to kick ass.

    Additional ideas-
    -Make grenades less bouncy
    -Add different map types (city, mountainous, river valley, tundra)
    -Add a trench knife with a 1 block range + instant kill (think about it)
    -Allow alternatives to grenades like flares, mines, chlorine gas, bouncy grenade
    -Choosing where to spawn (inside a certain area near the base)
    -False Blocks (once stepped on, they give way)

    Did Germany ever attack America directly ? Don't know. O.O Probably take Russia instead of Germany.

    Tylo, if there would be a sniper, it would be designed to operate like an acutal sniper (no movement, long delay between shots, use of a spotter) and, of course, the damage-to-distance thing.

    Unfortunately, there won't be classes but a reputation system that enables you to have different perks and abilities as well as join higher ranked servers.

    Long delay between shots! good point. =P Would be over-powered if a sniper could fire with the default rifle speed.

    Also, classes could be in tiers. Tier 1 would be available from the start of the game, and additional tiers would have to be unlocked via kills or caps.
    Tier 1: stormtrooper, spotter, builder
    Tier 2: Defender, medic
    Tier 3: Sniper, saboteur

    The tiers I have suggested would encourage the basic "shoot, kill, build" gameplay with tier 1,encourage more tactical team-based gameplay with tier 2, and specialized offensive roles for people who fancy it with tier 3.

    What I'm saying is there's already enough efficient snipers in the game. Also, I doubt anyone would play as a spotter. If they even had those in WWI.

    If he doesn't add it himself, eventually someone may make a mod for it, and if that happens, there's the slightest chance they might see this and think "gee, this really tickles my jimmies, let's use this as a basic concept!"

    Dude, if each class is overpowered in their own way, that's a good thing. And for the last time this game [right now as said on Ben's blog] is based on the American evolution and I even have a big feeling that blog is a big lie.

    Spotter = scout, if you like to think of it that way. Scouts have been around for thousands of years. They are dreadfully important, but having a good scout hiding somewhere and marking enemies would be an enormous asset to teammates, don't you think?

    Don't you realize spotters sit right next to the sniper? And if each class is over powered, what makes scouts overpowered? Super-speed?
