  • Worst games you've ever owned
  • 123

Tell us about any games you've ever had the displeasure of owning, whether it was given to you as a gift, or you bought it, feeling extreme buyer's remorse afterwards.

  • Least favorite games I've ever owned by console:
  •
NES: Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link.
Reason: Shit was too hard, yo. And that's saying a lot, because most NES titles were already hard to begin with, that's where the phrase "Nintendo hard" came from. Funny, when you consider Nintendo is at the heart of casual gameplay today. (Facebook doesn't even count as gaming, it's that casual)

    Gameboy: Pokemon Trading Card Game
Reason: Horrible mechanics, downright cheating NPCs, and why would you own a trading card game for a handheld console anyway?

    N64: probably Mischief Makers.
Reason: Too goddamn hard, and it was boring, with terrible graphics, and I could never get past the race level.

    PS1: Jersey Devil
Reason: Just flat out a dumb game with horrible controls. You probably forgot this game existed, didn't you?

    Dreamcast: Incoming!
Reason: Holy crap this game is boring.

    GameCube: Sonic Heroes
Reason: Do I really even have to explain why?

    GBA: The Sims 2
Reason: The Sims does NOT work on GBA, and was absolutely nothing like I thought it'd be. Should have read reviews, oh my god was this horrible. Worst 25 dollars spent EVER. This probably takes the cake as the worst game I have ever, and will ever buy.

DS: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Reason: More like - The Legend of the Shitty Controls: Boring Bullshit - amirite?
I mean, to be fair, there were plenty of things to do in the game, but they were all boring and unimaginative. Remember salvaging for the 200th time? Remember how you only have to fish like 4 times in the game, after that, there was no point? Remember that archery minigame with the horrible mechanics? Remember the stupid Temple of the Ocean King, and how it put the nail in the coffin for the entire game?

    That's it for me.

Xbox: The entire Lord of the Rings series of games.

Why? Because they're freakin' hard and boring. All of 'em.

Oh yeah I forgot I even owned one of those for GameCube. God that was dumb. Movie-to-game ports are almost always bad. Only in the case of Goldeneye was it actually good.

I always played ROMs of things on the N64 and below, and i probably never really downloaded the bad games. i had an n64, but i do not remember having anything other than mario 64, turok, and some star wars game

Gameboy: Spongebob Hunt for the golden Spatula(or something like that)
Reason: It doesn't actually have saves, and the game was sort of boring. but it was worth 5 dollars, and really, not too bad of a game.

    Gamecube: Timesplitters 2
Reason: it had pretty poor game mechanics, but wasn't too bad, actually. I also only own 3 gamecube games, and the other two are both pretty good.

    Wii: Red Steel
Reason: it wasn't really too bad of a game, the controls were not great, and it would be a little better with like at least 3v3 online. The sword fighting was stupid, because it was all about honor and everything, but you also fight these guys with baseball bats, which is sort of funny. I would have to say the Legend of Zelda: Princess Twilight is close on this, just because the controls really kind of sucked, and it was too easy, aside from the parts where the controls were unusable.

    DS: Harvest Moon
Reason: It is kind of annoying, with the anime stuff and everything, but that is not too big of a deal. i guess it is more that the game is just poorly made, but it's still a pretty fun and interesting game, just kind of outweighed by stupid fairies and magic all over the place.

    GBA: Chu Chu Rocket
Reason: It is pretty confusing, but even more confusing because the game is in English, and French or something, at the same time. So, I never really got to play it too much, but it seemed alright, actually. My friend gave it to me for free, he said it was the first GBA game he got

    Xbox: Fable
Reason: Fable looked and was incredibly easy, so it was just not too good of a game, I thought. again, i only had like 4-5 xbox games(like the gamecube, i started playing both a little bit late)

    Xbox 360: Dead Rising
Reason: It is a free-roam game with so many restrictions to where you can go, and has some overbearing time limit that just ruins it. The bosses are all really stupid, too, because they are usually some guy wearing some casual outfit with an assault rifle, and has some type of force field that makes bullets about as effective as throwing rocks

Fable was also full of exploits that ruined the game. Was OCD for me, too, trying to fight without getting scarred on my face. I sure learned how to dodge though, holy crap.

oh ye, i never really noticed any thing like that. i just remember that my brother died like a total of 2 times in the game, so that was enough for it to be too easy. i think i only played a little bit of the beginning, te game got scratched and we somehow deleted our save data, because the xbox 1 was so confusing

The worst game I've ever played was no doubt on the Nintendo Gamecube, Sega title Shadow the Hedgehog. This should've been a great embarrassment to the Sonic Team.

Say a bad word, amplify its volume a bit, bam, you have cools according to this game. The cussing in a Sonic game, well, not feeling like a Sonic game. This sure is a different game.

The gameplay was... Alright at best. It felt like it encouraged more power through than race to the finish. Other than that, why does Shadow need to drive a military jeep or wield a stop sign or alien gun? He doesn't.

The storylines were terrible and confusing to follow, also difficult to follow ingame because you have an NPC following you telling you your goal, but once you reach a certain point, you have a different one telling you to do something else. It wasn't straight forward and clear. Once you do accomplish a goal, example, a hero mission, you go forward on that storyline. The next level you can complete a dark side mission and continue from what you did complete into something entirely different and came out confusing, and before you know it you don't even care for the story.

The multiplayer was also terrible. Selectable characters were Shadow, Shadow with green stripes, and 4 robot Shadows that can't even change weapons. Quite the selection, right? I'm sure this game still appealed to some of the darkfags though...

PC: Sniper:Ghost Warrior. For a game that relies heavily on stealth, the AI sure can find you (as well as shoot you with their laser-guided AK47's) easily for being 300m away, prone and in a bush once you fire a single shot.
Narrative jumps between a lone sniper and an assault team, the latter part feels awkward as the controls are designed for the sniping side. Too much like a CoD wannabe.

360: Fable III: Whilst the story wasn't bad (and the stuff the shadow demon says is often a downright mindfuck), I was extremely disappointed with how it was hyped as "50% Fighting, 50% Ruling", when the whole ruling aspect was a few yea or nays on building some projects, and totalled not even 5% of the whole becoming King part. Plus the fact that one day there was 100+ days until the invasion, then suddenly, the next was invasion day.

Gameplay was also far too similar to Fable II for me to enjoy.

Eh, I wouldn't know about worst games, but I have another category, named "Most dissapointing games."

For the PC, there are three I'm aware of:

Need for Speed World: Admittedly, I shouldn't whine because it's free, but EA could have at least tried to make it look like they made at least a passing effort. At first the game is awesome... it's fun, crazy Need for Speed racing with actual humans, made even more fun by the downright epic "Team Escape" mode. However, it quickly become apparent that to get a cool car you need to level up a ludicrous amount of times, and there's nowhere near enough events to keep that from becoming boring. It also come with an outrageous censor system that won't let Germans say please.

Civilization III: What... the heck. It's even more complex and confusing than Dwarf Fortress, and nowhere near as fun. What's all this garbage with capturing nobles? II was all about holding cities, and IV also had a bit of that focus. III was a misfit child in an awesome series. I'm quite happy to say I never actually bought it, trying it once was like heroin in reverse: You're sure be permanently addicted to staying AWAY from the game.

Duke Nuken Forever: Notch, in one of his extremely lengthy game reviews, commented "Don't play it." I'm pretty inclined to agree. Classics are classics, modern remixes tend to be lame.

@Kaede in the sequel to phantom hourglass (spirit tracks) its the same exact stuff exept instead of being on a boat, it's a train and instead of the ocean temple, it's the spirit temple (i think). The prequel to hourglass (windwaker) was much better, and is an amazing game for the gamecube.

    Genji: Days of Blade.

Only game i've ever handed to a clerk and said "If i see this on that shelf over there, i am walking out of here and keeping my money for steam.." with.

Also Valkyrie, i think it was. On the PS2.
Some terrible Japanese game with terrible airplane snap center controls and two-stick handling. Reminded me of south-paw on halo. (WHICH I USE.)
    I broke that disc.

    Ps2: Psi-ops
reason: the second boss is UNBEATABLE (or maybe its just me) he throws FRICKIN trains AT YOU------plus the game has no real ending

I will NEVER buy another handheld Zelda again, oh my god, what a waste of money and a huge disappointment. I hated almost every second of Phantom Hourglass, but it'd have bugged me if I never beat it, because I wasted 30 bucks on it, may as well give it a full run through and ditch it.

I think the best thing to come out of DS Zelda was Linebeck and a good laugh at deformed Link.

Linebeck was alright, admittedly, and the funny things that would sometimes happen to Link. Rupoors were hilarious, and how he'd make a face when he got one. Also when the old man takes the hourglass from him, and he's just sort of stuck in some weird pose.

Master of Orion III for the PC. Complicated economy system, plus in combat the ships were so tiny you could barely see them. Super-disappointing since I loved the first two. Pretty sure I threw out the disks.

Oh yeah and "X2, the Threat" was god-awful. If you want a good space combat/ trading game get Independence War 2 instead.

I have played the Oracle games, and Minish Cap, both were great. But I have a feeling they're just going to keep on going with the stylus gimmick, screw that. If I'm going to play a game, it's going to be with conventional controls, and not be forced to use something that, while it does work, isn't really suited to that type of game.
