@Thunderstorm: On a basic level, yes, a lot of stuff is tried and true and good to be added. However, I don't want to end up playing a game that has the sole merit of being free-er than other shooters. I'd rather play something unique. |

Hurr durr it has guns and is fps so it's copying from Wolfenstein 3D. I seriously hope you guys don't make this argument. |

@Kaede: What, is there something wrong with Wolfenstein 3D? |
#49867 1337101 Modifier Posted 13 years ago |
AoS looks nothing and feels nothing like other shooters. What other shooters can you add blocks and make building and destroy them? |

Yeah it's an outdated piece of crap that isn't even a viable argument for anything. Just because something pioneered a genre, doesn't mean we have base everything new off that one foundation. Think of it this way, the Wright brothers pioneered flight. They wouldn't know what the hell they were doing with a jet engine or spacecraft. |

@Thunderstorm: That's the point, really. I've been given a unique game and now I'm defending it like crazy. I'd like to point out that it isn't paranoia if they really are out to get me. EDIT: Good lord, did I frighten the other users away? Sarcasm, people... |

@Kaede-chan Yes but what's wrong with simple indicators? I hate getting spawn raped and telling the user where the shots came from are a nice feature that can prevent that (or at least lessen it). Staggering a user distracts them. Throws off their aim. Sniper battles will turn into the first one to stagger their opponent to get the killing shot (with current rifle accuracy anyway). |

What's wrong with the tracers? |
#49895 MegaDeuce This is not a title. Posted 13 years ago |
They're not always obvious and hard to see where the shots are coming from if you get shot from the back/sides. |
#49897 Thunderstorm Member Posted 13 years ago |
I turned my tracers into arrows, easier to tell which direction they're coming from :) |

Personally, I prefer FPS games to be realistic, if anyone here has ever tried out paintball (which is about as close as you can get to a real battle) you would know from which direction you are being shot at. Your reaction to pain is quite instant and you would turn in the general direction of the shooter or know their [general] position. A damage indicator seems like a decent idea, but I was hoping for something more realistic, not as in hooking up your nerves to your comp. But I just want to see if anyone has any unique and original [and realistic] Ideas to be used on that battlefield, something that would define Ace of spades as even more original and as thunderstorm says, pioneers the gaming industry. |

You don't need a damage indicator. Those big blazing tracers already give a sniper's position away plenty. And if you don't see it, it's obviously coming from behind you. It's not neuroscience. At the very most I'd be OK with allowing mouselook from the head of your corpse when you died. Anything more and intel runners wouldn't stand a chance on the surface. |

why don't you guys just make an educated guess where the sniper is after being shot down? works fine with me :D |

I prefer airsoft. @Beret |

It works fine even when the first shot doesn't kill. Against a poor shot, I can often use their successive shots to find wherever they are- even some tiny hidey hole halfway up the wall in Hallway, and pick them off before they can finish their job. All without any kind of HUD indicator. |
#49976 Beret Commando Posted 13 years ago |
That's assuming they are very poor shots. And you're facing directly at them, of course you don't need an indicator where you can see the shots, its pointless there. But in other situations, crossing in the open and what not, pretty useful. |
#49981 Thunderstorm Member Posted 13 years ago |
I was talking about when you DON'T see the first shot. |
#49983 Beret Commando Posted 13 years ago |
Even then, a smart sniper would hide and wait until you give up and leave or go into hiding. Pop up again and boom. |
#49991 Thunderstorm Member Posted 13 years ago |
If he hid after missing (or not killing) then he's using his brains and should be rewarded by not being shown. The game shouldn't punish him just for failing to one-shot every attack he does. He's not exploiting, he's playing the game properly. At any given moment if I get hit without seeing the shot, I usually have a pretty good idea where it came from. For a start it isn't anywhere in my field of view, so that's maybe a quarter of the horizon covered. The shot hasn't flown away from me after hitting me, so the enemy isn't in the rear quarter either. I usually keep close to cover, which blocks off another quarter, or if I'm out in the open I'm constantly looking around me. Long story short, if they're able to spot you and line up their shot to kill you without you knowing where they are at any stage, you just weren't being alert enough, and you deserve to die. And if you get headshotted, a damage indicator wouldn't help anyway. |

i have an idea. little tracer shrapnel should go though you and if it comes out your chest, you would be able to tell the direction in which it comes from. |
