I agree with the 1 USD fee idea. Is small enough to make the game easily available for existing players. As well as an impulse buy for new ones. It would also deter people from griefing, as having to pay a dollar every time you're found out wouldn't be worth it.

I don't think that we need to pay money for this game (yet.) But we do need registration.

I don't think we need a pay to play system...i agree with the idea that that will lessen the fanbase for people who want to try it out. I think the main solution to all the trolls and griefers and teamkillers is simply to make an account registration. This should lessen it alot or at least enough that this game isn't as frustrating to play.

Don't worry Ben Aksoy, just because a group of people have given up on you doesn't mean that others will. This game is still going strong and I will play it until no players are left.

Definitely no on pay-to-play, but I wouldn't be against paying a one-time fee for access to some nice official servers.

I think it should be pay-to-play. It's a good idea and the developer should be making money from it. Like minecraft, where you register and have to sign in to play, but then you have it forever through all the updates.

At least put some ads up on the server list page!

@MegaDeuce: That's a one-time-fee, pay-to-play usually indicates a subscription with a fee for every month or so. I was thinking a pathetically small one-time fee for an account wouldn't stop anyone from trying the game out (c'mon, it's a dollar, not even enough to buy a decent lunch), while it would keep people who don't play nicely from others from making a whole long series of new accounts.

For now, though, I just want a simple free e-mail registration. It shouldn't be too horrifically complex to set up, and would at least slow the trolls down a bit.

@1337: Yeah I agree, except the "pathetically small" part. I would say 5 or 10 bucks would be appropriate.

This would send away a lot of the AoS community though, and many trolls would either pay to troll or pirate AoS just like Minecraft was pirated.

I'm totally down to pay 5 or 10 bucks for a gold name and access to premium servers. Another idea for that would be to set it up so that a premium account's vote kick would count as 2 instead of one.

Registration is the big word here. You can pirate minecraft, you just can't play MP.

The best idea to have is a IP ban griefers on your server. My old minecraft server had a IP ban list of almost 80,000 people. We need more server admins to do that job, and a registration system would be great. Much like the minecraft system, you can have a account, and upgrade it or not is your choice, you just get more perks if you upgrade and a different gaming experience.

I seriously hope everyone knows that a registration system would fix most, if not all of the community problems of AoS.

Now I feel so lucky that I feel that griefing isn't that common... Sure if someone griefs the votekick system is kinda... not an ideal way to get rid of him.

The things that actually drive me away are autism and lack of teamwork/communicating.

Also registeration is kewl.

Pay to play is a dumb idea.
Have anyone tried to play on the Aloha Renaiscance or Garage Gen servers?
They're ungriefable because of the great design and rollbacks which comes frequently. Effectively killing all griefers. The votekick system could be improved however, people are often too busy playing to pay attention to votekicks and again it can be abused to kick the serious players.

Ben if you are reading this you understand the problem with greifing and such. so i would gladly pay 2 dollars to buy this game maybe make it just cost a little to play not alot just a dollar or so just so we can stop this intense gameplay madness

1. Fix chat so it's readable independant on background (helps voting).
2. Add registration. Add registration. Add registration.
3. Do not add requirements to pay. Not everyone can get a dollar, let alone 10 to spare. Some can buy 3 loaves of bread for a buck... *points at himself*

Registration would give the servers a chance to ban any griefers, seeing as how the griefers could change their name in a heartbeat. Even if they didn't know how to change their name (Dueces), they could just come back a couple minutes later and have a different number at the end of their name.

Also, freezing everybody when the votekick starts could help to force participation in the kick, but could be a griefer tool if somebody were to do it very often. I don't want to have the game frozen every five seconds because of some troll. :|

How about, if you don't register you don't get access to the Spade+Pickaxe, and then weapons take 5 bullets to destroy a block, also have a notification "If you want to play the real experience of AoS, register now." Also, griefing isn't that bad from what I've seen, yes there is holes, everywhere, unfortunately, but thats the way the games gonna be played. No, I don't agree with the people taking down the entire bridge in bridge wars, that is very annoying, but, there should be something implemented to recognise when it's all gone to reset the map, and the like.

Bunkers and foxholes are bound to be destroyed, whether it's griefing, common grenades and gunshots hitting the walls or just natural movement of the game, things are obviously going to change - don't expect them to stay the same. Also, I think if they don't register they get the game at the bare minimum, still online, just a sort of "Demo" thing. Although, I don't know how hard this would be to do.

Or just don't give them any access to servers that registered users have access to. Server owners can specify whether to host a registered user only server or a regular server.
Nobody is going to host regular servers :D
If nobody is going to host normal servers, how would new people coming in find out if they like the game? I, for one, don't buy games (or registration) without knowing what it's going to be like. An official demo server would be nice for the peeps taking a look at the game.

I wouldn't be albe to pay a fee so I'm against it =P
At first lets see how it will change with just a registration system.
If only the registration system is pointlich we can think about what should come next xD

Hmm....
There needs to be a script implemented which can recognise when a player is griefing. What could that be?

Ok, so people say aos is just minecraft with guns. WRONG. Hey guess what! MINECRAFT IS AN ADVENTURE/BUILDING GAME AOS IS A WAR/FIGHTING GAME. AoS only has: 2 guns, a spade, a pic and blox. Guess what minecraft has? thus. its not worth paying for registration fees
