I had a long argument written out about why your assumption is ridiculous, but after some thought I've realized that maybe it's a good thing that I don't play on servers run by people like you. |

Whitelist/blacklist the IPs |
#58736 Chaos_BR Brazilian Atheist Posted 13 years ago |
That doesn't work all the time. Whitelist would be a pain, and would only work for static IP addresses. |
#58741 Kaede-chan (かえでーちゃん) Imageboard Moderator Posted 13 years ago |
that means no new members on aos |

I see where you're coming from, but in the end I think banning deuces would cause more trouble than it's worth. |
#59051 DerpyHooves Member Posted 13 years ago |
this is descriminatory |

Well I think their should be "guest mode",(or in this case,"Deuce mode"),that if a player wants to play without actually registering. The mode would have limitations, such as no chat and can only break a certain limit of blocks before recharging every minute or two. They can't make votekicks but can vote on a kick. |

A deuce only server would be... interesting. |
#59076 outwrangle Member Posted 13 years ago |
yes it would |

@Arbiter: A guest mode would temper down the amount of griefers without sacrificing the new guys but it should be complemented with the aforementioned Registration system. |

lol used 2 be a duece yesterday:) it was fun being a (noob) btw, it would have a huge affect on the Aos community |

to all those who are saying "deuces are fools cos they cant be assed to go through readme"; wen have u ever read those 20 page terms and conditions, thats wat i thort! |
#59200 underdog Member Posted 13 years ago |
^ the read me isn't that long... |
#59208 Seeker Nazi Posted 13 years ago |
ye its still like a page long tho and u cant blame people if they dont read it (cos most people dont) |
#59210 underdog Member Posted 13 years ago |
@Wrangle: Okay, I see your point. I guess I read your post wrong. XD I still think that a "Deuce Mode" would be better (as stated by Arbiter). Limited capabilities means limited means of griefing. Think of it as a teaser for those who want to pursue AoS. |

Or perhaps something like this? |

Even though I was never a Deuce and started playing as "YourMom" later turning into "[Real]YourMom", I have nothing against Deuces. I started playing this game at Beta .2, and the player I remember most of all was a Deuce numbered Deuce11. He kicked ass and scored over 300 points, capturing the enemy intel over and over. He was probably the best player I had ever met, and he was only a Deuce. I suspect that the Deuce I met was probably someone very well known on IRC or the forums right now, and that person could've been driven away from AoS if he hadn't been let on a server for not changing his name. There are few Deuces that spam the chat with repeated questions, but the overwhelming majority of Deuces stay quiet/relatively quiet and play the game normally. Also by my experience, half of any griefers have names. Bottom Line: Banning Deuces is impractical and will prevent many new players form joining the AoS community. |

I know that most build-only servers have taken to automatically denying all Deuces building privileges. This usually isn't a huge hindrance, though, since the system is explained if they ask and if they really want to build they're willing to leave, reconfigure, and return. I'm a little anti-Deuce myself, to tell the truth. If there's a votekick started against a Deuce I'm more easily persuaded to vote then if it's a named player. Still, a feature to deny them access to everything would just kill potential new players. The whole Deuce issue will die if and when we get registration anyways, since everyone will have to have a unique profile name. |

um yeah u can just start a server and not host it on the master server and just invite all your friends to play on it then u dont have to worry about deuces |
#63374 [17th]TorchOF Graphics Designer Posted 13 years ago |
Im curious, Explain to me how you would ban a all deuces from a server. You will be better off letting them all in then going through the server configuration Banning every kind of deuce name there could be. P.S The name is in THEIR configuration not yours so you wont be able to stop it unless you deliberately hack into their configurations and change it, which is highly improbable. Good day to you sir. |

Why Deuce? Why not Player or No-Name? |
#66515 [C.H]Winston_ Extreme Brit Posted 13 years ago |
I'm a noob, I played my 1st game yesterday. Before it I read the readme, learned the controls and changed my name. After about 3 minutes I was happily one-shotting enemies and loving the game. Today I wrote my 1st post on the forums and feel like I'm going to like this game a lot. |
#66670 FinnFrag Member Posted 13 years ago |
I know its insanely annoying to see 20 or more people all called 'Deuce##', but ban all deuces? That's a bit OTT, don't you think? No, the answer is to make the nickname changing more obvious. If proper menus are added *hint* at some point, it could be when you start the game, you type out a nickname, then get going. |

Plus, for me you're all just cannon fodder so why bother with names, it's like naming a lab rat XD |
