    Hey guys,

    Iv been thinking alot about the often mentioned idea of adding a side-arm to the game, now Ben has somewhere mentioned he MAY add this in future, i couldn't find the direct quote for you.

    So Im going to throw out a few ideas as to how it could work, and id love for you guys to give me some feedback or add your own ideas.

    P.S: Side-arm is a slang term for a handgun/pistol

    Basic dynamics - pistol or nades/ pistol and nades
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    My initial idea with the side-arm goes one of two ways,

    1) after choosing 1,2,3 for your main weapon you get a choice of either 2 grenades or a low power sidearm. This option makes you think more tactility about the game.

    2) You have grenades as normal and change to the sidearm by pressing a different key, but this takes away the whole tactics idea by making everyone totally versatile which makes gameplay a lil bit more basic, and less risky.

    Basic dynamics - The pistol mechanics
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Rounds in magazine: 9-15 (because thats an average amount for a low power sidearm)

    Total rounds: 30-40

    Accuracy: medium range

    Fast: faster then semi

    Damage to head: 50

    Damage to body: 25

    Damage to limbs: 20

    It is a last resort, quick draw weapon, for those "OSHIT" moments, or when you run out of ammo.

    Also it could mildly help the shotgun users who suddenly find themselves in a wide open area, or the enemy to far away to effectively injure with the shotty.

    The Ironsights

    Typical handgun ironsights, vaugly similar to the semi, but the edge parts at either side are closer together, making it more narrow, as a handgun is narrower then a rifle.

    How about giving the SMG a much needed buff, and including pickaxe/shovel damage? Slow down on the weapons folks, the current ones aren't quite perfect (except the shotty is perfect IMHO, the rifle needs a very minor buff of 40 to 50 for bodyshots)

    A side-arm would be pretty practical, especially for those near death/out of ammo situations. I kind of like the idea of being able to choose between either a side arm or grenades, since like you said, it kind of forces you to be a bit more tactical with your decision.

    I guess the only things I would suggest is increasing the headshot damage since...well..you're kind of getting shot in the head lol. The other is not so much a suggestion, but more of a design decisions I suppose. I guess after you choose your primary weapon you could then be prompted to choose between either a side arm or grenades, both of which have their trade offs. I can see a lot of users complaining about the number of prompts (remember, this is the internet, people are lazy) and just wanting to pick a gun and go. So design/prompt structure would have to be thought out so it's not bulky and not so intrusive to the user.

    Overall I think your suggestion is really good, just a few personal opinions of mine along with the importance of end-user design.

    ^ Defiantly agreed about the fact ppl may complain about having to many options at the load screen, but as you also say, ppl will complain about anything.

    Increasing headshot damage could be a smart move, I just didnt want the sidearm to be to lethal you know, otherwise it may as well be a separate main weapon lol :3

    IMO Handgun should have it's own slot along with grenades having it's own.
    My take:
    2 paths, the A path and the B path
    A path.
    12 Rounds loaded, 36 carried
    Accuracy: Up to Mid-Short area. Not enough to go for a mid range.
    Reload: Faster than the semi by at least 20%
    Firing Speed: Semi-Automatic. 0.001 pause between shots.
    Recoil: Not too much. About 40% of the rifle per shot.
    Damage to Head: 30
    Damage to Body: 25
    Damage to Limbs: 20

    B Path
    10 Rounds loaded, 30 carried
    Accuracy: Effective until 10 blocks before the A path pistol.
    Reload: A Path
    Firing Speed: A Path
    Recoil: 60% of the Rifle
    Damage to Head: 45
    Damage to Body: 35
    Damage to Limbs: 29

    Examples of pretty much a 9mm and a .45 ACP Respectively. Remember, these are the same cartridges that the SMG uses.

    But if your intent on a revolver then a webster 1942 perhaps?

    Shining example of making a proper suggestion thread.
    (Good job, Chief.)

    Pistol should have somewhat more range than shotgun, but less than the SMG.
    Also pistols have a fast firing rate, and are semi-automatic.
    I'd recommend a M9 with a magazine of 15 bullets. Its firing speed is 3 bullets per second.
    Body damage:16
    Head damage: 24
    Limb damage: 10

    I know nothing about guns or their physics but if there will be pistolS I would like a six shooter which would pack more punch but would have more recoil and cone, the other one could be more modern type with more bullets and accurary, but less power.

    By the way I prefer the "nade or sidearm" more than "nade and sidearm".

    Also lets try to be more creative, does it have to be a pistol only?

    I disagree with the rifle buff, it is currently very accurate and the king of long range fighting.

    We seriously need some sort of backup weapon to rely on if we run out of ammo. I know I do a lot, probably because I never die ;P.

    I really like the idea of swapping out the 'nades for a sidearm, but I think you should have a bit more ammo for the pistol than you guys are suggesting (hell, why not infinite ammo? Nerf the damage a bit and it becomes fair). Also, it should fire as fast as you can click, which would make it a handy tool in some people's hands >:D.
