  • Map Changes to bring us into the 90's [bump'd]

    So I've been playing some cool new 3D games like Quake and Comanche: Maximum Overkill, and I had a couple suggestions to really bring AOS up to date.

    1) A skybox

    2) Multiple terrain types. Examples: green, brown, and snow.

    What do you guys think? Would these be fun?

    the terrain types would be cool, i am not really sure what you mean by the skybox, but the different terrain types would be nice.

    Yea I want a skybox too.. the way it mirrors terrain now is cool. I say leave it for if there is no skybox/cubemap file.

    BTW, texturemaker can make cubemaps for skyboxes too. I also have use blender in the past for unreal tournament, quake 2 quake 3, and unreal 2003-2004 skyboxes.

    One cool thing that might make for a better ambiance than the usual skybox images, is have a skybox level that renders when you get near the edge of the map. That way we will keep the look an feel of the blokieness :)

    For real though, Ben needs to add chat text colour changing so that we play on the amazing snow maps that have been made.

    I do like the mirrored terrain, is there a way to render a skybox say, 100 blocks farther than the edge, so you can't literally walk up to it?

    Yea the mirrored terrain is really low on resources, and blends right in if you use a seamless texture.
