There are different voxel scales for different things in-game. The players and in game objects use much smaller voxels than the terrain, which really is 512x512.

Also, one of my favorite maps was El Alemein from BF1942, and it really did take minutes and minutes to cross that sucker :D

MegaDeuce, my point is that if you account for the fact that the terrain in AoS is technically bigger than one normal voxel, it isn't the same as comparing it to a V3D map. It's like trying to say 1000 grams is bigger than 1 kg because there's 999 more of them.

which is bigger than Voxelsteins square units

What? Don't you know that voxels are pixels represented in 3D on a coordinate grid? They're the same fucking thing. There is no larger or smaller.

You're basically implying that you'll lag a load if we rendered a voxel to insane proportions. As if one point on a coordinate grid will cause you to lag.

Tell me, have you ever used Voxxed?

I said square units, not voxels. Looks like someone doesn't like to read.

I know a voxel is ONE size, that's why I said the SQUARES in V3D are smaller than those in AoS.

The AoS map is not measured in voxels, you can't place a voxel on an AoS map, you can only place the default standard sized cube.

If you translate a kv6 into Voxed, it will be larger than it would be if you replaced an AoS model with it. If I put the semi-rifle's kv6 into voxed, it'll be made of AoS's standard cubes, not voxels.

EDIT: Yes, I've used voxed, I've posted maps before, that's why I said what I said. Instead of finding the fastest way to assert your intelligence, you should probably make sure you fully understand what I'm saying.

My mind must still be blank from the other day. You're just like Reuben. Good job.

I don't know who Reuben is, so you saying that was just as effective as you calling me a bitch mother fucker in Japanese.

    ^ Oh hell yes.

This is wrong, the blocks you see represent actual voxels in the map. The players, guns, command posts, intels, and grenades have a higher resolution. This doesn't imply that the blocks you place and dig are "really" like 16x16x16 cubes, it just means the map is rendered differently from the high-res stuff.

    @Illimvra

Everything in this god damn game is voxels. KV6 is file format for voxel MODELS. VXL is file format for a static map which is made of VOXELS.

The only difference between Models and Terrain/map is the different Voxels size/scale.

And what you're saying is, rendering something larger is just as easy as rendering something smaller? Even when scaled, that calls for more overhead.

And either way, my point still stands, maps that huge are fucking pointless.

EDIT: Also I didn't say they couldn't be scaled, Spengbab did.

EDIT EDIT: y no 1 her leik 2 rede?

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Wait, that was my point in the first place, maps that huge:

    1.) Are Fraudulent
2.) Will take longer to load
3.) Be more than 'my grandmother's rig' can handle.

So yeah, my point still stands.

Adding bigger maps would be cool, making them anywhere over 1000x1000 is just stupid (hell 1000x1000 is kind of stupid, period).

Illimvra, stop being ignorant, try the game MAG if you have time. And battlefield for that matter. I really think either your computer just really sucks or what.
Try minecraft too. You would learn that it's maps can reach 8 times the surface area of earth. Minecraft servers sends chunks of the map to the client as he is walking towards it. We live in the 21st century. I would actually really approve of larger maps if vehicles would be added.

As I said, I'm not against larger maps, I'm against ridiculously huge maps.

    Why not let servers decide?

I just think 64 person battle on the map size we have now would be perfect.

Right now, the default map seems to spread out.

I'm just imagining, think, a huge mountain map, 265 people one, APC's running people around, helicopters, ATV's, RPG's flying everywhere, bullets everywhere.

    Would be fucking awesome.
